We are seeking competent, reliable and self-motivated individuals to contribute to our Global Priorities by joining us in our Sierra Leone Country Office to ensure the delivery of high quality project activities in the target communities with a focus on building the capacity of Save the Children staff and key institutions with which SC collaborates, including both government and non-government agencies and organizations to ensure project quality and sustainability.

 

In this role, you will work closely with the WASH Project Manager to support the MEAL and the project team with data collection, entry, management and analysis, and helping to ensure that data is documented in a timely and accurate manner and that analysis is provided to inform decision making. The MEAL Officer will also conduct field visits to gather data and consult with communities. The post holder will support all efforts for promoting a high level of accountability to the program beneficiaries, particularly to children; this will include supporting community feedback and response mechanisms and produce monthly report of all MEAL work assigned to you.

 

  • In order to be successful in this role, you should have previous experience in data collection, data analysis, research or reporting. You should have strong knowledge Social Sciences like Population and Demographic Studies  and the ability to engage effectively with people at all levels from different cultures. 

Child Protection Level 2: either the post holder will have access to personal data about children and/or young people as part of their work; or the post holder will be working  in a ‘regulated’ position (accountant, barrister, solicitor, legal executive); therefore a police check  will be required (at ‘standard’ level in the UK or equivalent in other countries).

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Diploma in relevant Social Sciences like Population and Demographic Studies etc.
  • Previous relevant experience, such as data collection, data analysis, research or reporting.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills including in Microsoft Excel and Word (experience of other statistical analysis software such as Microsoft Access, SPSS or Epi Info a bonus).
  • Ability to present data, for example through graphs.
  • Ability to analyze and summarize information.
  • Excellent organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure in a rapidly changing context.
  • Ability to be adaptable and flexible.
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly into the field to conduct surveys, support community partners and check data.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English. 
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy,
  • Commitment  to  and  understanding  of  Save  the  Children’s  aims,  values  and principles  including rights-based approaches

Desirable

  • Proven data analysis (Qualitative and Quantitative) and report writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability in community mobilization and community-level dialogue.
  • Motor Bike riding skill (must be a licensed motor bike rider).

 

Contract length: 7 months
