INTERNAL/EXTERNAL VACANCY 

Sierra Rutile Limited is looking for qualified candidates for the following position

 

Production Superintendent 

 

Department: WCP Processing 

Job Grade/Level: D3/L15

Reports to: Plant Manager

Closing Date: Monday, 27th May 2019. 

Location: Mine Site

 

Overall Duties and Responsibilities: 

The Production Superintendent is responsible for the daily management of shifts and of production activities at the Wet Concentrator Plant, including associated Mining Unit Plants. The role is also responsible for communicating and ensuring that key safety and production targets are met while also supporting the achievement of quality and recovery targets in collaboration with the Metallurgy Department.

 

Education/Experience:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification / degree, eg Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, etc.
  • Training and experience in processing plants (operation and maintenance)
  • High level computer literacy in MS Office and SCADA systems
  • Driver’s license essential, and other mobile equipment licenses preferred
  • 5 years hands on operational experience within a processing operation, plus 3 years supervisory experience

Advantageous Knowledge and Skills:

  • Sound knowledge of processing, including applicable operational and management techniques such as Lean, Six Sigma, TPS, VFM, etc
  • Working knowledge of the tails planning process and practical responses to the plan to meet operational objectives
  • The ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in the section and to senior management levels
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills will be required to present information and discuss / negotiate with internal and external stakeholders

Key Responsibilities:

Manage WCP and MUP Daily Activities

  • Translates site work plans into practical action by developing specific plans in terms of people, equipment, other resources, logistics and timelines to meet short and medium-term production targets and requirements;
  • Participates meaningfully in Engineering planning meetings relating to systematic prioritisation of maintenance operations to meet production targets;

Monitors production performance in terms of HMC production and identifies broad-based trends and recommends actions;

Sets up appropriate procedures and systems to ensure production labour, equipment and other resources are being optimal

Manage Staff

  • Ensures that all subordinates are aware of production and broader business goals
  • Ensures all personnel display a shared sense of urgency
  • Improves the skills and effectiveness of team members

Commercial Management / Budget

  • Participates in the development of departmental budgets with the WCP Manager.
  • Act as a lead facilitator regarding continuous improvement
  • Accountability for monitoring actual versus budget / forecast
  • Exhibit effective cost control through monitoring of departmental expenses

Continuous Improvement

  • Facilitates ongoing review of operational practices in order to provide safety and efficiency improvements and formalise through implementation / updating of SWIs and procedures.

Resource Management and Communication

  • Identifies the training and development needs and priorities of subordinates and forwards and obtains approval;
  • Assists in ensuring agreed training and development plans are met
  • Compiles and provides written data as required in a timely, accurate and legible manner

Environment, Health and Safety:

  • Demonstrates a strong focus on Health, Safety and Environment
  • Ensures compliance with the Sierra Leone Mines & Minerals Operational Regulations 2013;
  • Ensures compliance with the regulations associated with the EPA and Environmental Impact License;
  • Ensure that all hazards and incidents are reported in line with the Iluka Resources Hazard, Incident & Emergency Classification (GUI1135);
  • Ensures that all injuries are managed within the Injury Management Guideline (SRLGUI001);
  • Ensures that all incidents are managed within the Incident Management Guideline (SRLGUI002);
