Project Description

SLE 1097 GIZ funded SGVC in COVID-19 Crisis Time – Phase II

Welthungerhilfe is working for 14 years on the development of cocoa and coffee value chain in the district of Kenema, Kailahun and Kono focusing strongly on production, fermentation and drying of the produce for exportation of cocoa beans to international buyers in Europe. With the GIZ funded Value Chain Programme for specific commodities - cocoa, coffee, cotton, the uninterrupted and sustained functioning of value chains for export commodities in Covid-19 crisis times is addressed. Farmers will be supported to expand their production as value chain actors will be supported to assure aggregation and trading of the produce. Dry season activities for food and nutrition security are encouraged. Covid-19 prevention measures with hygiene items will be further provided.

Job Purpose

Provide reliable and safe driving services (including the transportation of people and goods) to the project operational areas.

Tasks/Responsibilities

  1. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide reliable and safe driving services: Drive project vehicles for the transport of project personnel, WHH officials, and visitors as well as for the delivery of materials to beneficiary communities and collection of mail, documents and other items.

  • Maintain a daily vehicle log and prepare maintenance plans and reports.

  • Perform day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s) through timely minor repairs, arrangements for and supervision of major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes and water levels, car washing, etc.

  • Monitor compliance with insurance, registration and other formalities and ensure availability of all required documents and supplies (including vehicle insurance, -registration, -logs, maps, first aid kit, and necessary spare parts) in the assigned vehicle(s).

  1. Additional Responsibilities

Perform any additional tasks as requested by the Line Manager(s).

Experience and Education

  1. Valid Driver’s License.

  2. Professional experience of more than 3 years as a driver (or in a similar position).

  3. Dipl./Certificate (or basic education) in car mechanics, or any other related field.

  4. Experience with WHH Logistic Procedures (as an advantage).

  5. Knowledge in driving motor bike is an added advantage

Languages

Good command of spoken and written English.
