Community Engagement Officer (Ecosystem Restoration)*
in Moyamba
The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial contract duration of one year with possible extension. There are very good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be in Moyamba The position is paid according to WHH paygrade.
The objectives are following: Implementation of the project activities in Ecosystem Restoration according to specified deadlines and organizational, contractual and financial directives. The Community Engagement Officer – Expert is responsible to mobilize the community, carry out respective procurement processes, planning and implementing technical measures, and social components within the framework of the specified project assignment.

Your responsibilities :
Develop and implement communication strategies to promote environmental awareness, engage the community, and advocate for project goals. Collaborate with project partners, government officials, and other stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and implementation of project activities.
Plan, implement and monitor project activities, track progress, and evaluate the impact of the project on community well-being and environmental sustainability.
- Work with community groups and leaders to build their capacity for environmental management, resource monitoring, and project implementation.
- Collect and analyze data related to community demographics, environmental conditions, and project impacts, and prepare regular reports on project progress. Identify and select project beneficiaries, providing guidance and support to ensure project activities are inclusive and beneficial for the community, together with project partners and with the project team.
Organize and lead community mobilization efforts, including awareness campaigns, training sessions, and community forums, to promote environmental awareness and sustainable practices.
Your profile
- A University degree/ Professional qualification in related field
- Job related professional experience: 3 to 5 years professional experience
Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build rapport, engage with diverse audiences, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Community Engagement and Mobilization Expertise: Experience in organizing community meetings, facilitating workshops, and building relationships within communities. Knowledge of Environmental Issues: Understanding of environmental challenges, restoration techniques, and sustainable practices.
Organizational and Project Management Skills: Ability to plan, organize, and manage project activities effectively and timely. Ability to work with given budget and project indicators.
Cultural Sensitivity and Awareness: Understanding of local cultures and social structures, and the ability to engage respectfully with diverse communities. Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills: Ability to identify challenges, analyze problems, and develop solutions.
- Advanced knowledge in MS Office: Word, excel, MS teams and Power point
Language Skills: Proficiency in written and spoken English. Knowledge of local languages is an asset as it enables engaging directly with communities.
