JOB LOCATION:                   Freetown Office

EMPLOYMENT STATUS:     Full Time 75% Mechanic 

25% Driving 

Note: the percentage is flexible  

depending on the workload.

Job Overview of the Role 

None 

We are looking for a skilled Mechanic to assemble, maintain and repair our generators and vehicles. You will be  responsible for ensuring functionality and reliability of all AWC machines, engines and mechanical systems. 

In addition to the mechanical role, you must be willing to provide transportation service to AWC staff, patients, and  others as directed. You must take good care of all AWC properties, generators and vehicles with high sense of  responsibility and accountability. 

Qualifications:  

  • A degree or diploma in mechanical assembly, engineering, automotive technology, or a related field. Excellent knowledge of building and assembling machines or mechanical components according to  requirements 
  • Very good driving skills on various types of vehicles including Land Cruisers, Pick-ups, Mini Buses and  Ambulance as well proven experience as Mechanic 
  • Very good physical strength and stamina 
  • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills 
  • Valid drivers’ license 
  • Knowledge of area roads and neighborhoods 
  • Good attitude, willingness to work hard and to learn 
  • At least Five (5) years’ experience in similar role  
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful driving situations (e.g. at rush hour) 
  • Availability to take weekend and night shifts 
  • Able to communicate effectively in both Krio and English

Responsibilities and Duties: 

Responsible to maintain/monitor all AWC vehicles and generators as a Mechanic, fulfil driver  tasks and complete any other maintenance tasks assigned by your supervisor. 

  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of vehicles and generators, inside and out.
  • Inspecting vehicles and generators and run diagnostic tests to discover functionality issues
  • Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner  
  • Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components 
  • Replenish fluids and components of engines and machinery 
  • Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to generators or vehicle  users 
  • Track and document due service dates of the generators and all the vehicles and perform  services as required and regularly 
  • Drive vehicles with total awareness and safety, avoiding any damage to AWC vehicles and  collisions with pedestrians, other vehicles and properties. 
  • Map out driving routes ahead of time to determine the most expedient trip 
  • Always be available to drive AWC vehicles when required 
  • Be attentive and considerate of passenger needs and safety.  
  • Ensure the vehicles and generator’s fuel level, oil level, performance of the battery and other  basic things are in accordance 
  • Check – vehicle licenses, insurance documentation in the glove compartment and display discs  and report one month prior to the expiry date. 
  • Record all movements in the mileage logbook and accurately 
  • Report any safety issues, accidents or maintenance requirements promptly to the Maintenance  Team Leader 
  • Always remain contactable. 
  • Attend to tasks both the interior and exterior of AWC compound as assigned by your supervisor.  See the details in the attached table down below. Note: the table below is subject to review and  update as need arises.  
  • Any other task allocated by Maintenance Team Leader, Operations Manager or Country Director.
