TRUCK DRIVER (HEAVY GOODS VEHICLE)

JOB PURPOSE
The Truck Driver is responsible for the safe operation of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) for the transportation of large volumes of cargo, materials, and equipment to designated locations on behalf of AH&M Limited. The role demands a highly experienced, disciplined, and safety-conscious professional with a thorough knowledge of long-haul and regional transportation, vehicle maintenance, and cargo handling procedures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate heavy goods trucks and articulated vehicles safely in compliance with the Sierra Leone Road Traffic Act, load regulations, and all applicable laws.
- Transport cargo, goods, and materials over short-haul and long-haul routes within Sierra Leone and, where required, across national borders.
- Plan routes effectively, taking into account road conditions, weight restrictions, weather, and delivery schedules.
- Inspect cargo prior to loading to verify quantities, secure loads properly, and ensure cargo is protected against damage or spillage during transit.
- Perform thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections including checks on brakes, tyres, lights, oil, fuel, and load-securing equipment.
- Report all mechanical defects, accidents, or road incidents to the Transport Manager immediately and complete required incident reports.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, trip sheets, fuel records, and delivery documentation in accordance with Company policy.
- Comply with maximum driving hours regulations and take mandatory rest breaks to ensure road safety.
- Assist with the loading and offloading of cargo using appropriate equipment where required.
- Ensure the truck and trailer are kept clean, serviced, and in a roadworthy condition at all times.
- Liaise with logistics coordinators, warehouse staff, and clients to ensure seamless delivery operations.
- Uphold AH&M Limited’s reputation by conducting all operations with professionalism, integrity, and courtesy.
- Comply with all customs, border control, and cargo documentation requirements for inter-regional trips.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum Experience: 10 years of proven experience operating heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) or articulated trucks.
- Licence: Valid Sierra Leone Class C/E or equivalent HGV driving licence; clean driving record is mandatory.
- Education: WASSCE / BECE or equivalent; professional driver training or HGV certification is highly advantageous.
- Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Sierra Leone road networks, cross-border routes, and traffic regulations.
- Cargo Handling: Practical knowledge of load-securing techniques, weight distribution, and hazardous materials handling (where applicable).
- Physical Fitness: Must be in good physical health and able to manage the demands of long-distance driving and manual cargo handling.
- Language: Proficiency in English (spoken and written); Krio or other local languages are an advantage.

- Expert-level defensive and heavy vehicle driving skills.
- Strong situational awareness and road safety discipline.
- Ability to manage fatigue and make sound decisions during long-haul operations.
- Good numeracy and record-keeping skills for logbook and fuel management.

- Ability to work independently over extended periods with minimal supervision.
- Honest and trustworthy in the handling of high-value cargo and company assets.
- Problem-solving ability and composure in challenging or emergency situations.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Standard working hours: Monday to Saturday; extended hours and overnight trips may be required.
- Role involves long-distance driving, physical exertion, and exposure to varying weather and road conditions.
- Assignments may require travel to provincial towns and cross-border destinations.
- The role is subject to periodic medical fitness assessments as required by Company policy.

DELIVERY VAN DRIVER

JOB PURPOSE
The Delivery Van Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and efficient delivery of goods and products to customers, clients, and business locations on behalf of AH&M Limited. The role requires a highly experienced, reliable, and customer-focused professional who upholds the Company’s standards of service and road safety at all times.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operate company delivery vans safely and in compliance with Sierra Leone Road Traffic Act and all applicable traffic laws and regulations.
- Plan and execute daily delivery schedules, ensuring all deliveries are completed accurately and on time.
- Load and unload goods carefully, verifying items against delivery notes and manifests before departure.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, mileage, fuel consumption, and any incidents or damages.
- Obtain delivery confirmations and signatures from recipients and return documentation to the office promptly.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any mechanical issues or defects immediately to the Transport Manager.
- Maintain the cleanliness, roadworthiness, and general upkeep of assigned delivery vehicles.
- Handle goods with care to prevent damage, spoilage, or loss during transit.
- Communicate effectively with the Logistics team regarding delivery status, route changes, or delays.
- Represent AH&M Limited professionally when interacting with customers and members of the public.
- Adhere to all Company policies including road safety, anti-theft, and vehicle use policies.
- Assist with stock management and warehouse operations as required.

- Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit and capable of loading/unloading goods.
- Language: Proficiency in English (spoken and written); Krio is an advantage.
