 Doctors with Africa CUAMM operates in Sierra Leone since 2012, its mission is to enhance health systems and access to quality primary and secondary health care with a specific attention to maternal and child health care. Interventions include prevention, screening, and treatment programmes, developing or strengthening of referral systems at community level, training of health staff, management support and technical assistance to local health institutions, and field research. 

 

Job title: Accountant 

Duty Station: 22 Wilkinson Road Freetown, with possible trips to other project locations 

 

Department: Finance and Administration 

Project: S.K.I.L.L.E.D – Strategic Knowledge and Inclusive Learning in Health Sector for Youth 

Employment and Development (AID 013244/04/2) 

Reporting to: Project Administration (first responsible), Project Manager (second responsible) 

Contract type: Fixed-term contract (12 months), with 4 months’ probation period, with possibility of renewal based on available funds and performance. 

Days of work: Monday to Friday, from 8:30am to 5:30pm, for a total of 40 hours per week 

 

Scope of work, duties and assignments:  

CUAMM is implementing the project “S.K.I.L.L.E.D – Strategic Knowledge and Inclusive Learning in Health Sector for Youth Employment and Development” (AID 013244/04/2), supported by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation, to promote equitable and inclusive access to professional education and employment in the health sector and related services. 

Job Description 

The Accountant is responsible for managing and maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring compliance with internal and external financial reporting requirements. The role involves preparing daily payments, maintaining general ledger accounts, reconciling bank statements, assisting with audits, and preparing documentations. in full compliance with CUAMM’s and donor requirements.  

 Responsibilities and duties: 

  • Maintains accounting controls by following policies and procedures; complying with state financial legal requirements and donor/organization guidelines. 
  • Check, prepare & do payments through cash, cheque, bank transfer.  
  • Keep detailed documentation of expenses (invoices, receipts…) and financial movements. 
  • Update the accounting system of the projects in Lotus. 
  • Ensure the settlement of monthly government obligations every month. 
  •  Collect bank statement and prepare monthly bank, cash reconciliations 
  •  Keep and manage petty cash. 
  • Scan and upload all relevant project documents and expenditures justification on drive every month before 15th of every month.  
  • Keep updating staff folders (employment contract, documents, leave request forms) and files (annual leave, attendance sheets……). 
  • Control, with the support of the Logistician at Coordination, that the log-sheet of vehicles, motorbikes and office generators are correctly filled and kept. 
  • Check procurement supporting documents and keep track of orders, purchases and deliveries before payments. 
  • Revise and file all the supportive documents according to the donor’s requirement. 
  • Support in preparing all needed financial documents for the audit process. 
  • Perform any additional assignment according to the position, given by the immediate supervisor.  

Position Requirements:  

  • 02 – 03 years of relevant work experience in Accounting works, or similar, and university degree in a related discipline. 
  • Experience in accounting software is essential. 
  • Experience in working with computer systems and advanced Microsoft packages. 
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and ability to follow established processes and procedures. 
  • Good interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills. 
  • Collaborative and proactive approach in organizing the job with problem-solving attitude. 
  • Availability to travel and stay overnight at other project locations. 
  • Fluency in English, and the local language Krio. 

Preferred experience  

  • Experience in INGO financial management. 
  • Previous experience in AICS funded projects is favorable.
