About Candidate

A microbiologist and field epidemiologist i am responsible for conducting laboratory tests to detect, isolate, and identify microorganisms using culture, staining, biochemical, and molecular techniques such as PCR and ELISA; analyzing antimicrobial susceptibility to guide treatment decisions; maintaining biosafety and ISO 15189:2022-compliant quality systems; participating in surveillance and outbreak investigations to trace transmission routes and inform public health interventions; collecting and processing clinical and animal samples; performing statistical analyses including logistic regression and survival analysis; reporting findings to stakeholders and clinicians through accurate documentation and digital systems; training health workers and interns in sample handling and diagnostic protocols; and contributing to continuous improvement by designing SOPs, participating in audits, and promoting One Health approaches that integrate human, animal, and environmental health.

Education

B
Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Immunology 2024
Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology

I offer both technical know-how and a strong dedication to public health as a qualified microbiologist with practical experience in molecular diagnostics, antibiotic susceptibility testing, and animal sampling. I can precisely isolate, identify, and analyse microorganisms in microbial culture, molecular diagnostics (PCR, sequencing), antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and biosafety procedures thanks to my background in microbiology and immunology. I also make sure that strict adherence to biosafety and quality standards is maintained.

In addition to my laboratory expertise, I have helped bridge the gap between laboratory science and community health interventions by participating in field epidemiology and One Health projects. The chance to use my understanding of microbiology to improve diagnostic capabilities, facilitate precise and prompt outcomes, and assist evidence-based decision-making in the medical field especially excites me. I would be able to combine my technical expertise with my love of helping others by working as a laboratory technician at PIH, guaranteeing that laboratory science directly contributes to patient care and public health results.

Furthermore, my expertise in field epidemiology has improved my capacity to relate test results to actual health outcomes. Through WASH and One Health projects, I have engaged communities, planned and implemented surveillance systems, and investigated outbreaks. I am able to provide high-quality laboratory data and convert it into practical initiatives that enhance public health because of this dual approach. As a laboratory technician at PIH, I hope to help the organisation's objective of providing fair healthcare by enhancing diagnostic capabilities and guaranteeing high-quality outcomes.

Field Epidemiology Training Program Frontline Cohort 17 2025
Sierra Leone Field Epidemiology Training Program

Trained to investigate, analyse, and respond to public health threats.

Equipped with hands-on, field-based training in epidemiology, surveillance, outbreak response, and applied research.

Positioned as a bridge between science and policy, ensuring data-driven decisions for public health action.

Works across One Health domains (human, animal, and environmental health), especially in regions where zoonotic and emerging diseases are a concern.

Often embedded in ministries of health, laboratories, or international health organizations, serving as the frontline workforce for epidemic preparedness and response

L
Laboratory Intern April 2023 - June 2023
Koidu Government Hospital Kono

As a laboratory intern I was responsible for assisting in daily laboratory operations by preparing, labeling, and handling patients samples under supervision. I support senior staff in conducting routine tests such as Malaria, CBC, LFT, RFT, etc while ensuring strict adherence to biosafety and quality standards. I accurately record observations, maintain laboratory notebooks, and enter results into manual books to support reliable reporting. I also assist in the cleaning, and safe operation of laboratory equipment, monitor inventory of reagents and consumables, and ensure proper waste disposal. Additionally, I shadow experienced staff to learn advanced techniques, contribute to team projects, and strengthen my technical and analytical skills.
