About Candidate

Mary is a committed specialist with expertise in Education, Child Protection, Safeguarding, Health, Gender and Program management. She holds a Master of Science degree in Development Management and a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from a recognized university. With over thirteen (13) years of experience, Mary has held various management positions in the development sector, working with international NGOs. My academic qualifications and years of experience make me a valuable asset in the development sector.

 

I am currently serving as the National Safeguarding Manager for Partners in Health-Sierra Leone (PIH). In this role, my primary responsibility is to create and promote a safe and healthy working environment and culture that actively prevents and condemns all forms of sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment and other safeguarding violations within and outside the organization.

 

I report directly to the Regional PSEAH/Safeguarding Advisor and collaborate closely with HR and country Director to ensure the achievement of key deliverables within our organization. I am responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive safeguarding policies and procedures that align with international standards and best practices. These policies are designed to protect all individuals associated with PIH, including staff members, volunteers, beneficiaries, and other stakeholders.

 

I have previously served in the following positions with International  NGOs:

As a  Programme Specialist, recruited by UNICEF, to work within the Ministry of Health and Sanitation. Specifically, I was assigned to the national secretariat for the Reduction of Teenage Pregnancy and Adolescent School Health Programme.

 

During my tenure in this role, I was responsible for various tasks and responsibilities related to the aforementioned program. These included developing and implementing strategies to reduce teenage pregnancy rates, promoting adolescent health and well-being in schools, and collaborating with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective program delivery.I played a crucial role in coordinating efforts to address the pressing issue of teenage pregnancy in the country. This involved conducting research, analyzing data, and identifying key areas where interventions were needed. Additionally, I worked on designing evidence-based interventions and programs that aimed to empower young people with knowledge and skills necessary for making informed decisions regarding their sexual and reproductive health.

 

As an Education Programme Manager for ActionAid-Sierra Leone

In this role, I  contributed to the girls’ education and transition program through a four-year project funded by the Department for International Development (DFID). This project aimed to improve access to education for girls and support their successful transition into adulthood. By addressing barriers such as poverty, cultural norms, and gender inequality, we worked towards creating an inclusive and supportive environment for girls’ education.

 

As a Child Right Governance, program Coordinator for Save the Children International

In this role, I was responsible for overseeing the implementation of child rights governance programs in various countries. I worked closely with government officials, civil society organizations, and community leaders to ensure that child’s rights are protected and promoted. I also provided technical assistance and capacity building to local partners to enhance their ability to advocate for children’s rights.

 

As an Education Programme Officer for Concern Worldwide

In this role, I was responsible for managing education programs in emergency and development contexts. I worked closely with local partners to design and implement education programs that were tailored to the needs of the communities we served. I also provided technical assistance and capacity building to local partners to enhance their ability to deliver high-quality education programs.

 

As a Child Protection and Gender Mainstreaming, program Officer for GOAL Ireland

In this role, I was responsible for ensuring that child protection and gender mainstreaming were integrated into all of GOAL Ireland’s programs. I worked closely with program staff and local partners to ensure that our programs were designed and implemented in a way that promoted the rights and well-being of children, particularly girls and women.

 

During my career, I have demonstrated a strong commitment to promoting gender equality and empowering marginalized communities. I have   actively worked towards improving access to quality education for all, particularly focusing on underserved populations. Additionally, I have been involved in initiatives aimed at enhancing healthcare services and ensuring the well-being of children. My expertise also extends to program management, where I have successfully led and implemented various projects.
