Partners In Health (PIH) is an international health organization relentlessly committed to improving the health of the poor and marginalized. PIH partners with local governments to build local capacity and works closely with impoverished communities to deliver high-quality health care, address the root causes of illness, train providers, advance research, and advocate for global policy change. Our delivered services in the field are based in our partnership with the Governments and Ministries of Health and the support to education, training and mentorship to Health care workers and students is one of our pillars for the Health care system strengthening.
PIH currently has implementation programs in Haiti, Rwanda, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Peru, Mexico, Russia, Sierra Leone and Navajo Nation. Through our partnership with Harvard Medical School and the Brigham and Women’s Hospital, we support a wide range of programs in dozens of other countries around the world. Our Work In Sierra Leone: Partners In Health (PIH) began supporting the government of Sierra Leone in response to the Ebola epidemic in October 2014. Recognizing the large need for continued investments in the health system after Ebola, PIH is committed to long-term health system strengthening in support of the Ministry of Health and Sanitation (MOHS), guided by the same principles as our emergency response and our work around the world: public sector accompaniment, integrated and comprehensive services, social justice, nimbleness and flexibility, partnership, community ownership, and evidence-based interventions. In the aftermath of the epidemic, PIH is committed to supporting the delivery of comprehensive health services in Sierra Leone, from the community level to the health center and to referral hospitals. |

Position Overview | |
Partners in Health-Sierra Leone (PIH-SL) seeks a dynamic communications professional who will create PIH-focused content for use in print and electronic formats, particularly the PIH websites, newspapers, social media platforms, organizational messaging, and Information, Education, Communication (IEC) materials. As part of the Communications team, the Writer will participate in editorial planning and edit content from staff across PIH-SL for internal and external audiences.
The Writer will establish strong relationships with clinicians, patients, and community members to create content that highlights PIH’s mission and values of social justice, accompaniment, and delivery of high-quality, dignified care, while being a champion of ethical content gathering and safeguarding standards. |

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: | |
External Communications (50%)
– Work with PIH-SL staff and Marketing and Communications staff at the US Coordination Site to identify and develop story ideas and turn them into compelling pieces for national and international audiences – Write interesting and jargon-free articles, profiles, and news stories that inform and engage PIH audiences including supporters, the general public, and health care professionals – Together with the Communications team brainstorm, write and edit social media content for national and international audiences – Schedule and post copy to PIH-SL’s new website, including photos, videos, and graphics – Facilitate the process of publishing success stories in national newspaper outlets – Support clinical teams in the production of health awareness campaigns including writing copy for posters and flyers – In conjunction with the Communications team’s production calendars, set, adhere to, and enforce multiple deadlines Internal Communications (20%) – Gather, edit, and package information from PIH-SL staff into easily accessible content for internal communication channels Fundraising and Resource Mobilization Communication (30%) – Support the development of fundraising and resource mobilization materials, including 1-pagers, PowerPoint presentations and the annual report in close collaboration with clinical leads and the Policy and Partnerships team – Support the engagement strategy for PIH-SL’s flagship project, the Maternal Center of Excellence in Kono District – Write and edit communications materials (e.g. Thought Leadership Pieces) for grant-funded projects |

Qualifications/Requirements | |
Essential Experience And Skills
– Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Media, Journalism or a related field. – At least three years of relevant experience in a similar role. – Proven ability to write and edit materials across multiple platforms. – Excellent command of English and ability to adapt tone to various audiences. – Understanding of and ability to clearly communicate topics related to global health and social justice. – Knowledge of social media and how to engage audiences on digital platforms. Experience writing for social media platforms. – Strong storytelling skills and ability to identify captivating story ideas and angles. – Excellent communication skills, with the ability present complex topics and issues in an engaging, simple way. – Experience building strong relationships with sources. – Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Essential Competencies and Attributes – Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a very fast paced, deadline-driven environment – Proficient in Microsoft 365 suite, including Outlook and Teams. – Working knowledge of website content management systems. – Humility and flexibility. Capacity to enter each conversation as a learner and a teacher. – Commitment to health as a human right and social justice. – Strong understanding of ethical content gathering and safeguarding standards. |
