Doctors with Africa CUAMM operates in Sierra Leone since 2012, its mission is to enhance access to quality primary and secondary health care with a specific attention to maternal and child health care by using the network of CHWs as well, nutrition, communicable and non-communicable diseases’ prevention, diagnostic and treatment services.
Doctors with Africa CUAMM works to save lives by combating hunger and diseases that threaten the lives of vulnerable communities, through nutrition, food security, water and sanitation, health and advocacy.

Reporting to: Project Manager (first responsible),
Contract type: Fixed-term contract ( 8 months), with 4-months probation period, and with possibility of renewal based on performance and available funds.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Community Mobilizer will coordinate and support the work of Community Health Workers (CHWs) and Mother Support Groups (MSGs) in the early detection of malnutrition cases at the community level. The officer will lead community awareness and oversee counselling sessions by Mother Support groups (MSG), assist caregivers in accessing nutrition services, and ensure regular linkages between communities and health facilities.
The main responsibilities are:
Objective 1: Support and participate in the planning of community mobilization activities for effective implementation
- Mentor and coach CHWs and MSG members in communities ensuring their functionality for effective counselling, community screeningand referral procedures.
- Support active screening and referral of children with signs of malnutrition through collaboration with CHWs and MSGs.
- Raise awareness in communities on Maternal infant and young child feeding (MIYCF), hygiene, and early care-seeking practices.
- Support the organization of cooking demonstrations and nutrition education using local foods
- Participate in designing/testing/disseminating IEC materials adapted to the local context.
- Follow-up on proper utilization of IEC materials and tools at community levels provided by CUAMM
- participate in the Identification of weaknesses and challenges of community mobilization activities implemented and contribute to recommendations
- Support community mobilization activities for outreach activities organised by health facilities
- Report challenges and feedback from the community to the project team for timely response.
Objective 2: Representing the Organization at community level
- As required, present the main focus of the project to the various local partners, project beneficiaries, traditional and religious leaders at community level
- Liaise effectively with the community authorities, Health facility staff and other beneficiaries for smooth project implementation.
Objective 3: Support and Participate in MEAL activities
- Ensure the use of proper tools for tracking and reporting community-level activities.
- Organize monthly planning and reporting meetings with CHWs and MSG Lead Mothers
- Follow up on routine activities of MSG and CHWs
- Support data collection at community level and contribute to monthly reporting.
- Present a weekly report on all activities undertaken
- Participate with M&E team in conducting surveys and assessment when needed
- Generate and share with management beneficiary success story from communities
Requirements:
- Minimum of Diploma in Community Health, Social Work or related field.
- At least 1 year of experience in community-based programmes.
- Ability to work closely with local communities in a respectful and inclusive way.
- Willingness to work in Pujehun District of Sierra Leone;
- Basic data collection and reporting skills.
- Good oral and written communication in English and local languages
- Ability to ride a motorbike is an asset.
Desirable Skills:
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, partner agencies, key contacts in the government, and CSO.
- Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office and data collection tools).
