Overview
Around 760 million people worldwide still lack access to electricity, while approximately 2.6 billion people do not have access to clean cooking solutions. Access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy is a prerequisite for social and economic development and for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Climate Agreement.
The bilateral programme “Sustainable Rural Development through Renewable Energy with Special Focus on Women-Led Enterprises in Sierra Leone (SURE)” promotes sustainable access to climate-friendly and demand-driven energy services for rural households, social institutions and MSMEs, with particular attention to women-led enterprises.
SURE promotes renewable energy solutions, productive use of energy, institutional capacity development, technical and vocational education and training, and an enabling environment for sustainable energy markets. The programme is co-financed by the European Union and implemented by GIZ in close cooperation with the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Technical and Higher Education and other public and private partners.
The Intern supports the implementation of SURE activities from the programme office in Freetown.
