Who we’re looking for
We’re looking for a highly skilled and experienced project manager to lead a new media for-youth project. This ideal candidate must demonstrate strong leadership skills and a track record of project set-up and delivery, including budgeting and expenditure management; partner and grants management, production oversight, youth programme delivery and research and learning. The role will involve working closely with other BBC Media Action teams, as well as young people. Therefore, creative thinking, problem solving, analytical skills, and good communication skills are essential.
Specific job requirements and competencies
The ideal candidate for this role will have:
- Experience managing a multi-disciplinary team to deliver development projects, including project design, developing workplans, deploying resources and adhering to log-frame commitments;
- Strong skills in managing budgets and good knowledge of budget and project management tools and software;
- Experience writing activity and project reports, and the strong written communication skills to do so effectively;
- Ability to build strong working relations quickly and gain the trust of local partners and counterparts;
- Strong analytical skills, good judgement and decision-making abilities, as well as innovative project delivery and problem-solving skills

Scope of work
The Project Manager will lead day-to-day implementation of the Dis Na Wi Voice project, ensuring timely delivery of activities, coordination with FSTP recipients, oversight of youth-focused media and digital components, and compliance with EU requirements. The role ensures supporting various teams to deliver activities on time and according to budget. It will also involve providing leadership and support to the training and production team to deliver capacity building for young people and partners and strengthening linkages between all components of the project.
Responsibilities
Project management and delivery: take overall responsibility for day-to-day coordination of all project strands, ensuring that activities align with timelines in the action plan and meet milestones. This will involve working with management to set up the project, finalise work plans and tools, as well as recruitment of project staff.
Partner management: To serve as the primary liaison with the three university radio stations and national media partners receiving grants on this project. Will be responsible for initiating grant agreements, work plans and reporting requirements. Partner management also means supporting partners to solve problems and deliver impactful activities.
Oversee selection, training and mentoring activities: The project manager will provide oversight of all training and mentoring activities, supporting the training and production manager, as well as partners to select hub participants, facilitators and digital stewards, among others, ensuring safe, inclusive and gender-sensitive participation of young people in all activities.
Content and production oversight: Will take overall responsibility for coherent implementation of the project brand and content ecosystem across radio, digital and mainstream outlets. The project manager will support the Training and Production Manager and Digital Producer to maintain editorial quality and alignment with project objectives.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning: To work closely with the Research and Learning Team to monitor activities, including quarterly progress reviews and partner reporting. The project manager will support baseline and endline research, digital analytics tracking, and content review assessments.
Reporting and Compliance: Will be responsible for preparing reports in line with EU requirements. This includes ensuring compliance with EU rules on visibility, grant management, procurement, and safeguarding.
Safeguarding: Uphold and promote strict adherence to BBC Media Action’s safeguarding, respect-at-work and health and safety policies across all production and training activities. This includes ensuring a safe, respectful, inclusive, and non-exploitative environment for all youth participants and a responsibility for reporting safeguarding concerns promptly, following BBC Media Action protocols. Safeguarding considerations must also be integrated into training, content production, and outreach activities.

BBC Media Action works to ensure that everyone we work with remains safe during their time with us, and we operate a zero-tolerance policy concerning all forms of abuse and exploitation of vulnerable people. As this role will involve working with groups of vulnerable children, youth, and adults, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct.
