Jhpiego is an international, non-profit health organization affiliated with Johns Hopkins University. For 40  years and in over 155 countries, Jhpiego Corporation has been providing technical support to the Ministries  of Health in partner countries across the globe for the past 40 years in a variety of technical areas including  cervical cancer treatment and prevention, community health, HIV and AIDS, maternal and newborn health,  health workforce capacity development in-service, malaria, and IPC/WASH.  

MOMENTUM Country and Global Leadership (MCGL) is part of a suite of innovative awards funded by the  U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) to holistically improve maternal and child health (MCH)  in partner countries around the world. The project focuses on technical and capacity development assistance  to Ministries of Health and other country partners to improve health outcomes.  

In Sierra Leone, Jhpiego supports the Government of Sierra Leone at the national and district level in capacity  building and technical assistance to contribute towards improving maternal and newborn and child health. A  significant area of focus for our work is accelerating and strengthening the technical and operational capacity  of local healthcare workers to reduce maternal and newborn and child deaths and provide quality services 

We are currently looking for suitable candidates to fill the following positions:

 

Quality Improvement Coordinator

Locations: Freetown Country Office 

Contract Duration: (6 – 8) months  

  

Job Overview:  

The Quality Improvement Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing implementation of Quality  Improvement activities in all the MCGL supported facilities in our operational districts. S/he will work closely  with the national Quality Management Programme (QMP), District Quality Improvement teams and the  Momentum Project staff to support Maternal, Newborn Health, Child Health (MNCH) & Nutrition quality  improvement service delivery based on the facility needs.  

The person selected for this position will actively participate in district MNCH implementation and strategy  discussions including planning and progress reviews with the national Quality Management Programme and  other stakeholders, as appropriate. The Quality Improvement Coordination will also play an important role  at district level, providing technical assistance to strengthen and scale up Quality Improvement and Quality  of Care delivery of MNCH and nutrition services including providing technical support to facility teams to  identify and develop Quality Improvement projects based on evidence from facility generated data. S/he will  ensure that MCGL’s programs implement national guidelines and standards in the provision of quality  services in MNCH and nutrition at facility and district level. She/he will support the district team in the  development of district quarterly, semi-annual and annual reports on quality improvement projects and  impact created at facility and district level. 

 

Responsibilities :

  • Provide technical oversight and leadership, capacity development, and supervision to and health  workers implementing services supported by MCGL MNCH and nutrition activities.
  • Assist in the assessment of clinical training needs of the district and in the design and  implementation of appropriate measures to address those needs
  • Work with the DHMT, hospital and QMP to develop, and support a pool of mentors and trainers to  improve quality.  
  • Support DHMTs, regional/district trainers and mentors to offer on-the-job training and mentorship to  healthcare workers to develop QI project and monitor change using appropriate technology and  other digital applications. 
  • Work with the M&E team to monitor the monthly performance of QI projects at facilities.
  • Ensure performance and quality improvement approaches in clinical sites as approved by MCGL and the QMP. 
  • Identify and disseminate best practices and new technical strategies and approaches in areas of  expertise 
  • Promote and facilitate information sharing of persistent quality barriers and best practices to  accelerate learning and program improvement 
  • Ensure implementation of evidence-based clinical training materials and standards, supervisory  systems and other approaches 
  • Provide technical oversight and ensure appropriate support and preparation for training activities
  • Ensure compliance with USAID and Jhpiego operational policies and regulations, including on  clinical practices 
  • Perform other duties as directed by the senior staff 

 

Required Qualifications :

  • Advanced degree / Advance diploma in public health /community Medicine and Community Health /  Nursing /Community Health Officer 
  • Two to five years of work experience quality improvement in health service delivery
  • Experience in data management 
  • Experience in monitoring evaluation,  
  • Excellent problem solving and analytical skills 
  • Demonstrated training and mentorship skills 
  • Extensive knowledge of the local health systems. 
  • In depth knowledge of approaches to quality improvement and health performance, including CQI,  QA, root cause analysis and/or human factor analysis, strongly preferred 
  • Proven track record of working successfully with groups of people to achieve a desired outcome
  • An understanding how to manage projects work on project teams is essential 
  • Proven leadership and management skills with the ability to multi-task 
  • Self -management is necessary (i.e. motivation, dealing with pressure, adaptability).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, instilling trust and confidence. 
  • Be cooperative, competent, hardworking, flexible and dependable. 
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines and intense pressure  to perform 
  • Excellent systems management and organizational skills 
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills in English and at least one other  Sierra Leone language 
  • Willingness to travel within assigned districts up to 50% of time.
