Position Overview
The Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning (HVAC) technician will play a crucial role in ensuring the proper installation, functioning, maintenance, and repair of heating & cooling systems at the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) and Koidu Government Hospital (KGH) through regular maintenance, technical inspections and carrying out repairs in times of breakdown of the HVAC systems. The role is vital for ensuring an energy-efficient, comfortable, and safe indoor ambience for both MCOE and KGH facilities, while also offering dedicated customer service support to end users on smooth operation of HVAC systems
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
Duties & Responsibilities. 

  • Installation of various types of Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems (Split units, Central Systems, & VRF systems, etc…) according to specifications provided by manufacturers or Head of Maintenance, at PIH facilities – MCOE, KGH, Dorma Warehouse, etc. 
  • Perform scheduled periodic maintenance (including warranty services) to ensure that spilt units HVAC systems are running at peak performance – clean, adjust, & replace filters, etc.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC VRF units by cleaning internal & external units, monitoring and calibrating Air Handling Units.
  • Responsible for diagnosing and troubleshooting HVAC system, equipment and components malfunctioning, using test equipment and hand tools, making necessary repairs during breakdown.
  • Participate in preparation of comprehensive list of HVAC materials, consumables & accessories with their specifications, and making and requisitions for restock. 
  • Collaborate actively with the electrical and biomedical team to ensure a proper functionality of all HVAC systems, biomed equipment & devices, and the medical gas plant.
  • Support the electrical team to troubleshoot electrical components, fix leakages, replaces faulty parts, or recalibrates controls to restore functionality.
  • Actively interacts directly with end users of HVAC systems & equipment installed, by explaining procedures, guidance, & advise on system usage & operation, in order to enhance a customer-centric approach and building trust and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  • Advise the Head of Maintenance on HVAC systems upgrade and repairs.

  • Other duties as delegated to you by your line manager that fall within the scope of work and role level.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours, odd hours and night shifts.

Education and Work Experience Requirements: 
Education & Training Requirements.

  • Minimum of 3-4 years of work experience in HVAC installation and maintenance;
  • Minimum of Diploma in Mechanical/HVAC Installation and Maintenance or Certificate / Craft certificate in HVAC/Mechanical Installation and Maintenance from a recognized institution;
  • Ability to use measuring instruments and diagnostic tools, to measure HVAC system parameters, and also to interpret system performance from parameters measured.
  • Ability to read, interpret and use HVAC technical drawings and wiring diagrams as guidance to address faults efficiently.
  • Having electrical maintenance skills or qualifications is added value.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the health & safety practices – including proper handling of refrigerants, adherence to electrical safety procedures, and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when working in hazardous environments;
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse staff, partners, and clients;
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative; must be a quick learner, able to multi-task and easily adapt to changing circumstances and stay updated on the latest developments;
  • Ability to effectively work on a team in a complex, fast-paced environment;
