Overview

Overview HSSEP III supports Sierra Leone’s efforts to strengthen health systems, epidemic prevention and preparedness, and progress towards universal health coverage. The project works with national stakeholders to improve service quality, data use, coordination, and financing, and to align partner support. The position comprises the following:

A. Responsibilities

  • Provide operational and administrative support to HSSEP III work streams (quality of care, epidemic prevention/readiness, health financing/governance, M&E).
  • Support documentation, filing, and data management to ensure timely, accurate project records.
  • Assist in organising meetings, workshops, and field activities with government and partners.
  • Contribute to literature reviews, basic data analysis, and drafting of briefings/minutes.
  • Facilitate internal coordination and communication within the HSSEP III team.

 

The Intern performs the following tasks:

B. Tasks

The Intern will be located in Freetown and their tasks will include (not exclusively):

 

  • Document management: Maintain structured filing of soft and hard copies for all project outputs (correspondence, reports, workplans, contracts, MoM), following GIZ standards.

 

 

  • Event and logistics support: Assist in preparing agendas, invitations, participant lists, venue logistics, and materials for technical working groups, trainings, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Research and analysis: Conduct desk research on health systems, epidemic prevention, and financing topics; compile summaries, data tables, and references for technical notes.
  • M&E support: Assist with data collection/verification from implementing partners and facilities; support preparation of progress updates.
  • Communication: Draft meeting minutes and action points; prepare basic presentation slides; support internal newsletter/updates/ social media posts.
  • Procurement/admin liaison: Support preparation of simple procurement/admin requests (e.g., PRs for small events, printing) in coordination with admin team.
  • Field support: When required, support short field visits in Freetown and peri-urban areas for event delivery, supervision visits, or data verification.

C. Required qualifications, competences, and experience Qualifications

▪ University degree in an area that is related to the project/programme objectives: Public Health, Medicine, Nursing, Social or Biomedical Sciences, Pharmacy, Biomedical Engineering etc.

Professional experience

▪ Not required; prior internship or student research assistance in health-related projects is an asset.

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • Strong MS Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); basic familiarity with data tools (e.g., Excel pivot, forms); database knowledge is an asset.
  • Good written and spoken English; Krio proficiency an asset.
  • High attention to detail; reliability in handling internal documents and confidential information.
  • Strong organisational skills; ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills and teamwork in a multicultural environment.
  • Willingness to learn and upskill according to assigned tasks.
