| Job Purpose: | - Scaling-Up Nutrition and Immunisation Movement (SUNI) and Food & Nutrition Security (FNS) network activities: Support the establishment and strengthening of Chiefdom and community FNS networks in project locations through – capacity building on FNS concepts; supporting FNS in conducting outreach activities related to analysis and monitoring.
- Nutrition Education activities: Through participatory approaches that raise awareness of the principles and importance of nutrition, especially for women and children, as well as on improving the use of healthy food (from mixed farming products, naturally available nutritious foods, backyard gardens etc) for dietary diversity for the household.
- Health Activities: Through participatory approaches that raises awareness on early detection and referral of malnourished and counselling of caregivers on the status of their children.
- Implement Nutrition-Sensitive WASH activities at community level: Promotion of improved hygiene and sanitation practices and facilities at household and community level to reduce the prevalence of diarrheal diseases (for an improved utilization of and sustained effect of improved diets) – focusing both on behavior change and improved WASH hardware.
- Implement Sustainable Natural Resource Management activities: Using participatory/ community based methods to support the community to analyse their environment and its food sources – e.g. farm land, rivers, forests. Support communities to implement agreed measures/activities to use and manage their resources sustainably to ensure diverse and enough food production from the natural environment in the long term.
- Implement Nutrition-sensitive sustainable Agriculture activities: Through farmer Field school approach – Support farmers to ‘grow what they eat’ to enable them to sustain healthier and more diverse diets from their own production. With a focus on climate smart sustainable (organic) production of diverse nutrient rich crops – and developing integrated crop and livestock farming systems on their own farms.
S/He will ensure that agreed targets are on track, collect monitoring and case stories, and provide quality reports. |
| Main duties & Responsibilities: | Programme planning and implementation Under the supervision of the Programme Manager: - Contribute to the development of monthly and weekly work plans with the team based on the overall project work plan and timeframe;
- Participate in project community entry meetings and identification of vulnerable households using PRA tools;
- Participate as active participant in relevant project training of trainers;
- Lead on establishment of FNS networks at Chiefdom and Community level in project locations:
- With Programme Officer – Support the roll out of the Nutrition Smart Communities Nutrition Camps intervention including:
- Organising screening of children in project counties aged 6 months to 3 years (anthropometric measurements by trained animators and Community Health Workers);
- Participatory targeting of vulnerable households with malnourished children to engage in Nutrition camp sessions;
- Support nutrition camp sessions in areas of expertise: hands-on infant and young child feeding practices; cooking demonstrations of low-cost nutritious recipes; preparation and demonstrations of low-cost nutritious instant mixes for children; education on food and personal hygiene, safe drinking water, active feeding and care during illness.
- Give technical input to adapting the intervention to the context of the project communities
- Evaluate, document and share learnings/best practices coming out from nutrition camps with FNS/SUNI/DHMT and other key District government stakeholders.
- With Programme Officer, build and maintain effective professional relationships with community leaders and animators to aid successful programming.
- Participate in WASH coordination meetings at District level
- Complete any reasonable task requested by the Programme Officer.
- With support from the Programme Officer, train/coach Project participants on key climate and nutrient smart agricultural topics using Organic Farming Manual for example: soil fertility/composting, mixed cropping, mixed farming,, homestead gardening, sustainable management of natural resources, post-harvest loss, natural pest control etc;
- Train/coach project participants on LANN+ Module 4 – Agriculture and management of natural resources – support participatory community land mapping and establishment and coaching of NRM committees;
- Support other project field officers in roll out of other LANN+ training modules and nutrition camps where needed;
- Support the establishment of Farmer Field Schools (FFS) and strengthen the capacity of master farmers to cascade sustainable-organic agricultural practices through the FFS;
- Support FFS groups to develop integrated crop and livestock farming systems on their own farms;
- Ensure that Cross cutting issues: Gender & Equality awareness rising are mainstreamed in all activities.
- Support other project field officers in roll out of LIFE training modules;
- With Project team support development and implementation nutrition-sensitive (gender sensitive) and climate-resilient community micro-development plans;
- Preparation documentation (ToR, SRs, training curriculum, budget, float request, transport request…) for a programmatic and logistical preparation to implement agreed field activities – trainings, workshops, coaching and monitoring visits;
- Facilitate trainings and workshops in areas of responsibility ensuring all paperwork are properly filled and procedures followed (such as attendance list, payment receipt etc.)
Monitoring and Evaluation - Ensure that all agreed Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning requirements are captured on time through standardized data collection tools; are accurately and submitted to the MEAL Officer;
- Liaise with the LIFE project M&E Officer to ensure that WASH, Agric & NRM and Health and Nutrition accurate data are collected through standardized data collection tools.
- Participate in project planning, review meetings with staff and stakeholders, and ensure that key recommendations and learning are incorporated into day-to-day project implementation.
- Participate in baseline, end line and monitoring surveys as required.
Reporting and documentation - Participate in the writing of monthly activity reports through the timely submission of activities up-date to the Programme Manager.
- Actively participate in the production of donor and annual reports by giving updates and inputs to the Programme Manager in a timely and accurate manner;
- Actively participate in the documentation of good practices and case stories working with PQ team;
- Participate in correct and accurate filling of documentation (soft & hard copies).
Other Duties - Actively participate in collective exercises such as preparation or updates of Preparing for Effective Emergency Response (PEER) plan, Security Management Plan (SMP); proposal development; Concern strategic plan and other Concern initiatives.
- Promote and protect the reputation of Concern in external settings, ensuring the organization’s experience and expertise is well communicated and consistently presented, and that we are seen as a professional organization.
- Ensure the efficient and transparent use of all Concern’s resources in order to maximize the benefit to the targeted communities.
- Promote accountability and ensure compliance with Concern’s Code of Conduct and Associated Policies (Programme Participants Protection Policy, Child Safeguarding Policy, and Anti-trafficking Policy), Anti-Fraud Policy and Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS), including the complaint and response mechanism (CRM), to ensure maximum protection of programme participants and the efficient and transparent use of Concern’s resources.
- Promote Equality, especially gender, within the organization and across programmes, in line with Concern’s Equality Policy and, and ensures targeting and project implementation is informed by How Concern Understands Extreme Poverty (HCUEP).
- Undertake other related duties as may reasonably be assigned by the Country Management Team or by Line Manager.

Partnership and Localisation - Ensure induction with all new joiners is done on partnership with a clear focus on monitoring partner procurement policies and procedures
- Participate in the CILPAT exercise with a focus on Operations and organisational sections.
- Rollout training packages developed by OD and other existing materials.
- On the job support/ mentoring partners on use of templates provided and adhering to policies and procedures to avert potential risk of fraud.
- Lead in the Operational and organisational sections during Annual Capacity Assessments (ACAs) which will later be finalized by OD before consolidation.
- Participate in Quarterly reviews sessions and joint monitoring visits to provide insight into partners’ work.
- Support partners developing JDs for logistics staff
- Support partners in developing policies and procedures related to procurement and supply chain

| Person specification: | Role Holder Requirements: Education, Qualifications & Experience Required Essential - University degree in in Nutrition or Community Development or other relevant social sciences.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience of implementing development projects in (and demonstrated knowledge and understanding of) gender-sensitive community based nutrition and food security (experience livelihoods, climate smart agriculture or natural resource management)
- Strengths in community mobilization, fostering multi-stakeholder networks and platforms and knowledge of participatory approaches
Special Skills, Aptitude or Personality Requirements: Essential: - Minimum 3 years working with INGOs
- Excellent, proven training skills and competence in group facilitation
- Ability to work on own initiative
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Good observation skills
