GOAL has been operating in Sierra Leone since 1999, with the overall aim of reducing poverty and vulnerability  through integrated, multi-sectoral interventions. Our primary focus is on improving Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal,  Child and Adolescent Health (RMNCAH), with a specific emphasis on addressing teenage pregnancy. We also work  to improve rural water supply and urban WASH, including faecal sludge management, while promoting social  inclusion, empowerment, and decent work through systems-based approaches and community-led social and  behaviour change. GOAL currently operates in Western Area Urban (Freetown), Kambia, Bombali, Moyamba, and  Kenema districts. Our work is supported by Irish Aid, Charity: Water, FCDO, CFI, JOA, and UN-Habitat. 

On this note, GOAL Sierra Leone would like to invite well experienced and professional applicants for the undermentioned  national role: 

JOB TITLE Office Assistant

CONTRACT DURATION: 7 months (with an extension possibilities)

REPORT TO : Logistics Assistant

 

Overall Objective  

  • To support other Office assistants in the day-to-day running of the Freetown Office. 
  • Specific Objective of the Position  
  • To provide receptionist and general support functions to the GOAL Freetown Logistics/Support team. Overview of the role 
  • The Office Assistant (Cleaner) is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the building in which they work by  performing various cleaning duties. 

Main responsibilities:  

GOAL anticipates that in the performance of daily activities there will be some tasks requested of the employee that are not  stated in this job description. It is therefore an additional responsibility of the employee to be flexible regarding its’ interpretation. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Assess the cleanliness and hygiene situation of the office and detect current and potential problems. Perform common office cleaning tasks to maintain a clean workplace, this may come in the form of sweeping floors,  cleaning toilets and windows and throwing the trash. 
  • Ensure supply of cold drinking water is available, boiled and filtered. 
  • Perform errands that assist daily functions 
  • Assume dispatch duties as necessary 
  • Ensure security measures such as locking doors and closing windows  
  • Identify any potential damage or repairs and report to Admin Assistant  
  • Always ensure security inside the office especially theft of items during the day. 
  • Any other duties as assigned by your supervisor 

Inventory & Supplies  

  • Monitor cleaning materials stock: soap, bleach, detergent, bin liners  
  • Inform Logistics Assistant – 1 week before supplies finish to avoid stock-out  
  • Keep store room for cleaning materials clean and organized 

Requirements  

Essential:  

  • BECE/WASSCE certificate minimum. Must read safety labels on chemicals  
  • 1-2 years’ experience as cleaner/janitor in office, hospital, school, or NGO setting  
  • Knowledge of basic cleaning, disinfection, and waste disposal 

  • Physically fit to lift 15kg, stand for long hours, climb stairs  
  • Punctual and reliable: Must report 7:00am daily before staff arrive  
  • Trustworthy with high integrity. Will undergo background check 

Requirements (Person Specification) 

  • This job requires someone with good interpersonal skills, high integrity, honesty, a person that can relate well with  others, one that is always willing to carryout task(s) outside his/her job description and is flexible with time of work.  Desirable 
  • Experience working in an Experience working with INGO/UN/NGO environment or in a similarly recognized  establishment will be an advantage. 
  • Must be experienced in housekeeping. 
  • May help in the despatch of letters 
  • Qualified to Junior Secondary School Level 3. 
  • Basic training in Occupational Health & Safety  
  • Ability to speak English + Krio fluently
