Position Overview
The Painter is responsible for all painting-related tasks at the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) and KGH hospital facility. The responsibilities includes surface preparation, application of standard and specialized coatings such as acrylic paints, epoxy, Lati-crete products, spray painting, and finishing of doors and surfaces with precision. The role ensures that both MCOE and KGH hospitals walls, floors, fixtures, and furniture are well maintained, contributing to a clean and safe healthcare environment. 

The Painter works under the supervision of the Head of Maintenance and will ensure all surface finishing works meet hospital facility standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Duties & Responsibilities. 
  • Carry out surface preparation including sanding, priming, patching, and leveling surfaces before painting.
  • Perform routine painting maintenance on internal & external wall surfaces including wards, operating theatres, offices, and patient rooms.
  • Apply specialized surface finishing (eg. epoxy paints, Lati-crete coatings) on hospital floors & surfaces, where high durability, waterproofing, chemical resistance, or hygiene is required (e.g. bathrooms, kitchens surgical suites, labs).
  • Operate and maintain spraying tools & equipment for large surface areas or detailed work requiring even and fast application.
  • Paint and refinish wooden and metallic doors, frames, drawers, and hospital furniture with a high level of finish and color consistency.
  • Deliver high-accuracy coating finishes, maintaining clean edges, uniform texture, and specified paint thickness and ensure all painting work complies with hospital facility standard.
  • Inspect painted surfaces regularly to identify cracks, peeling, or damage and perform corrective maintenance.
  • Ensure colors and textures match when performing touch-ups or repainting.
  • Manage paint stock and make material requisitions when needed.
  • Follow infection control protocols to ensure no contamination during painting in sensitive areas (e.g., wards, clinics).
  • Properly ventilate painted areas and ensure minimal disruption to patients and staff.
  • Assess material needs and make requests for supplies before painting.
  • Work closely with the hospital’s maintenance, operation, and environmental services teams to support infrastructural projects.
  • Collaborate with external contractors or technicians when necessary.
  • Use protective equipment, ensure safe handling of all paint chemicals & solvents, and follow occupational health and safety procedures.

Education and Work Experience Requirements: 
Education & Training Requirements.

    • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience as professional painter in construction sector or hospital facility settings.
    • Experience working on both painting renovation of old buildings and newly constructed facilities.
    • Experience in pre-painting surface preparation – sanding, priming, patching, and leveling surfaces.
    • Experience in hospital facility settings is a plus.
    • Having a skill in masonry, tiling, carpentry or welding will be an added advantage
    • Skilled in specialized types of paint (latex, epoxy, Laticrete, oil-based, etc.) and application techniques 
    • Good color coordination and aesthetic sense.
    • Strong attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality finishing and accurate levels.
    • Physical strength & fitness, and ability to work on heights – ladders or scaffolding – when needed.
    • Familiarity with safety and health regulations, especially in medical environments.
    • Flexibility and ability to adapt to varied construction conditions.
    • Team player, responsive to supervision, and proactive in identifying maintenance needs.
