| Position Overview |
| This position is responsible for providing plumbing installation, repairs & maintenance services to the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) and KGH’s water distribution network, toiletry sanitary wares & fittings, water treatment plant, and sewer systems. The role ensures proper distribution of potable water, and also safe disposal/evacuation of waste water & drainage from both facilities in an environmental friendly manner. The plumber’s role also includes maintenance of boreholes, wells and mechanical piping systems of utility equipment installed in the hospital facilities. |
| Essential Duties and Responsibilities: |
Duties & Responsibilities. - Install and fix sanitary appliances in Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) and KGH buildings to ensure the usability of the same and proper water connection needed for their operation based on need;
- Carry out regular maintenance of water and sewer pipes within the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) and KGH through repairs or replacement of broken or old pipes to curb leakages;
- Working closely with Environmental Health team in water treatment and related installations, maintenance, and repairs.
- Support with supervision of major plumbing and water reservoirs related installations projects and maintenance;
- Carryout routine preventive inspection on water network system – plumbing pipes, fittings, fixtures, valves, and other related appliances within the facilities to investigate leakages and malfunction with a view of determining appropriate corrective actions in order to avoid water losses; – by fixing burst pipes; opening clogged drains; repairs and maintain internal plumbing systems and external drains; cleans plumbing systems utilizing appropriate equipment;
- Install, fix and maintain plumbing systems, including gas pipes (copper pipes) systems at the MCoE and KGH premises in accordance with applicable regulations, standards and the international plumbing.
- Complete reports on all inspections, checks and remedial works carried out including the use of computer software for recording details for which instruction will be given;
- Prepare equipment & tools, and plans for plumbing job by interpreting designs or blueprints, coordinating with co-workers;
- Participate and prepare a comprehensive list of plumbing materials with their specifications, when need be, for maintenance or new installations to guide in the purchase of the same;
- Participate in preparation of water pipes installation sketches for new buildings so as to guide in the installation process as well as ensure proper coverage of the building;
- Inspect, and repair boreholes and wells within MCOE and KGH
- Repair and maintain plumbing system by replacing washers in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes and opening clogged drains; repairs and maintain internal plumbing systems and external drains; cleans plumbing systems utilizing appropriate equipment;
- Work closely with the hospital’s maintenance, operation, and biomedical teams to support infrastructural projects;
- Collaborate with external contractors or technicians when necessary;
- Ensure continuous functioning of plumbing network & sewers systems, and ensure full compliance with hospital hygiene and infection prevention protocols & standards;
- Use protective equipment and follow occupational health and safety procedures.
Others - Other duties as delegated to you by your line manager that fall within the scope of work and role level.
- Must be willing to work extended hours, odd hours and night shifts.

| Education and Work Experience Requirements: |
Education & Training Requirements.- Minimum of 3-4 years of work experience in provision of plumbing services and maintenance;
- Having a certificate in Plumbing installation; Water & Sanitation (WATSAN); or Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) training from a recognized institution is an added advantage.
- Having a mechanical engineering plumbing experience or skills is an added value;
- Practical experience and skills working with PPR pipes, accessories and fittings.
- Ability to install, repair and maintain toiletry sanitary wares & fittings, and plumbing fixtures & systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of applicable health and safety practices.
- Ability to trace leakages in a piping network.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative; must be a quick learner, able to multi-task and easily adapt to changing circumstances;
- High level creativity and innovation.
- Precision and attention to detail, ability to troubleshoot and repair quickly.
- Physical strength and stamina.
