Job Description

Baptist Convention of Sierra Leone (BCSL), a faith-based organization which is committed to inclusive development and community transformation. In partnership with CBM and other stakeholders, BCSL implements projects that promote disability inclusion, health, education, and livelihoods.

The Convention also oversees the Baptist Eye Hospital Lunsar (BEHL), a specialized secondary facility providing essential eye care services in Sierra Leone. Through its linkage with BEHL, BCSL integrates clinical expertise with community-based programming, ensuring that eye health interventions are both accessible and sustainable.

BCSL is looking to recruit an individual to fill in the post of Project Finance Officer in their Lunsar Office.

JOB SUMMARY

The Project Finance Officer is responsible for the financial monitoring of the project and the administration of budget funds. He/she ensures that all financial processes comply with the guidelines, prepares financial reports and supports the team in all budget-related matters. The PFO will be based in Lunsar and reports to Project Manager.

  • Main Tasks include:
  • Provide administrative and accounting support to project activities at the partner level.
  • Ensure compliance with BMZ and CBM financial procedures and donor requirements.
  • Manage project budgets, ensuring alignment with approved financial plans.
  • Regularly monitor the budget implementation rate and flag variances.
  • Complete and validate standard financial documents (e.g., vouchers, transfer requests, cheques).
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reports, ensuring consistency and proper supporting documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records.
  • Support procurement processes in line with organizational and donor guidelines.
  • Assist in preparing for internal and external audits by ensuring proper documentation and compliance.
  • Scan and enter accounting documents into the financial system.
  • Ensure proper filing and digital archiving of financial records.
  • Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business management, audit or other relevant, finance, Accounting Business Management, Accounting Control Audit or any similar qualification. Having a master’s in finance/accounting will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in financial management, accounting, or related roles.
  • Experience working with local and international NGOs is an asset.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Saar, Compta 100) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong computer skills, including Word, PowerPoint, and internet-based tools.
  • Solid understanding of financial reporting, budget monitoring, procurement, and audit processes.
  • Excellent writing and presentation abilities.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to travel frequently within the country.
  • English: Working knowledge (mandatory).
  • Knowledge of local languages such as Temne and Krio (required).
  • Valid Category B driving license is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrates alignment with CBM values in daily work and professional conduct.
