Position Overview
Background
Seed Global Health envisions a world in which a strong and sustainable health workforce enables every country to meet the health needs of its population. Seed’s mission is to educate and train a rising generation of health professionals to expand access to quality care, save lives, and improve health outcomes. Seed works in close partnership with governments, academic institutions, and
health facilities in Malawi, Sierra Leone, and Uganda. Its model focuses on strengthening the education and training of doctors, nurses, and midwives, as well as the educators who prepare them, to ensure that quality healthcare is accessible to all.
Position Overview
The Maturity Progress Assessment (MPA) is a structured approach used by Seed to assess partnership capacity and readiness against the minimum requirements defined in Seed’s Theory of Change (TOC). It provides a baseline snapshot of foundational systems across education, clinical practice, and workforce governance. The MPA informs Seed’s Long-Term Partnership Strategy planning and contributes to the broader TOC evaluation, which examines implementation, institutional growth, and health outcomes over time.
Phase One of the assessment will establish a baseline in Sierra Leone, focusing on the Core and Preceptorship Program Packages. Findings will inform organizational learning, adaptation, and future programming decisions.
The Research Assistant will support the timely and high-quality implementation of the TOC assessment by administering structured questionnaires at designated partnership sites, ensuring accurate documentation of responses, and recording any incomplete or unclear information for follow-up.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administer the MPA assessment at each partnership site for both academic and clinical partnerships (Bo, Makeni, and Kenema).
- Travel to partnership sites to conduct surveys/assessments with selected respondents. • Use Android-based applications (DHIS2) to administer assessment of questionnaires at designated sites.
- Ensure completeness and accuracy of collected data, including clarifying and documenting any responses that are unclear or incomplete.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all data collected at all times. Under no circumstances should any information be shared outside the designated evaluation team without prior authorization.
- Coordinate with and report any field challenges to the MEL Team.
- Submit daily progress reports on field activities.
- Uphold Seed values and professional standards when engaging with respondents. • Ensure that all collected data is synchronized/uploaded to the cloud daily. • Assume full responsibility for mobile tablets provided for data collection throughout the exercise.
Qualifications
- Minimum qualification: West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) or Diploma preferred
- Proficiency in Android-based data collection tools (e.g., DHIS2, ODK, Kobo Collect, or CommCare)
- Experience in health data collection, surveys, or research activities (Qualitative & Quantitative) such as Demographic health survey
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to report field challenges clearly
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards
- Able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain a positive attitude
- Team player, capable of completing tasks within given guidelines and standard procedures
