Street Child of Sierra Leone (SCOSL) is a local Non-Governmental Organization promoting the right to education and child protection for children in the most remote communities in Sierra Leone.

As an organization, our key focus is helping children into schools and ensuring that they stay there. For those that have no access to education, we work towards creating access in some of the most remote parts of the country, ensuring that no child is left behind

Job Summary:

Street Child is seeking a highly motivated Construction Supervisor to support the delivery of high-quality, safe, and inclusive school construction projects across Sierra Leone. The successful candidate will play a central role in ensuring that infrastructure interventions meet technical standards, comply with government requirements, and are completed on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Technical oversight & design
• Review, interpret, and validate school construction projects.
• Produce clear technical drawings and site plans based on specifications, donor requirements.
• Ensure all designs and works comply with Government of Sierra Leone school construction regulations, standards, and approval processes.
• Apply strong technical knowledge of clay brick interlocking construction models, specifically as used in school construction in Sierra Leone.
• Site supervision & quality assurance at each stage of construction.
• Conduct regular field visits to remote project locations to supervise construction progress.
• Monitor contractors’ performance, ensuring adherence to quality standards, timelines, and bill of quantities (BoQs).
• Identify, document, and escalate risks, delays, and structural or safety concerns.
• Provide on-site technical advice and problem-solving support to contractors.

Reporting & Coordination

• Prepare clear and timely construction progress updates for Street Child senior management, donors, and government partners.
• Maintain accurate records, site reports, checklists, and photographic documentation.
• Liaise closely with Programme, MEAL, and Finance teams to ensure alignment between construction progress, budgets, and programme goals.

Compliance & Safeguarding

• Ensure all construction activities meet health, safety, safeguarding, and environmental standards.
• Support the vetting and selection of contractors and suppliers following Street Child’s procurement policies.

Additional Contributions

• Train and mentor community stakeholders, contractors, and SCoSL staff on basic construction where needed.
• Champion child-safe and disability-inclusive design principles throughout all phases of construction.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of Street Child’s construction guidelines, tools, designs, and systems.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Architecture, or a related technical field.
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience supervising construction projects, ideally in the education or community infrastructure sector.
• Strong understanding of Sierra Leone building codes, school construction guidelines, and approval processes.
• Demonstrated experience with interlocking clay brick construction methods, including design interpretation and quality assurance.
• Proven ability to work in challenging, rural environments and to travel extensively.
• Excellent drawing skills (manual or software-based) and strong ability to interpret technical plans.
• Strong communication skills and ability to liaise with community stakeholders.
• Experience working with NGOs or donor-funded projects is an asset.
