Reports to: Program Manager, Food System.

Working in across the 16 districts of Sierra Leone, in partnership  with the ministry of health and ministry of Agricultural and forestry together with the Scaling up  nutrition and food security (SUN) and communities stakeholders to ensure program sustainability. 

We are currently seeking Interns in Sierra Leone. The interns will be supporting the implementation  of a suite of three out of the eight lifesaving interventions:  

  • Supplementing pregnant women multiple micronutrient supplementation  Supplementing children for 6-59months with Vitamin A and albendazole through an  integrated child health days at both facility and community level through outreaches sessions  particularly in hard-to-reach communities. 
  • The program also complements the government flagship program under the feed Salon  strategy to support the food systems actions to promote women empowerment through  livelihood activities, women and children’s diets, and secure access to essential nutrients  through home-grown food production. 

Scope of work  

Under the guidance of the Program Manager and with support from the program team; the intern will: Support the TLTN team to strengthen the delivery and coverage of high-impact nutrition  services at facility and community level using government structures. 

  • Support training of women farmers on climate-smart agriculture and improved dietary  practices to the operational districts (Bombali and Moyamba). 
  • Learning and applying quality assurance through mentorship and supportive. 
  • Contribute to implementing the program work plan across the three TLTN interventions which  include  

o Multiple micronutrient supplementation 

o Vitamin A and deworming

o Support to the food system through training of farmer-based organizations Support program monitoring of monthly data from the DHIS2 and draft monthly report for  the monthly performance review meeting. 

  • Help organize meetings with stakeholders to guide project implementation. Compile and edit information for dissemination events to facilitate knowledge sharing and  document lessons learned. 
  • Provide support to the communication officer in advocating and targeting various stakeholders  by gathering evidence, documentation, with the communication.  
  • Support engagement with government ministries, private sector entities, and other partners  during program activities.  
  • Support the program team to organize meeting logistics; take key notes during meetings and  share immediately for action. 
  • Prepare regular progress reports as required during the bi-weekly meetings with the team. Travel to the provinces to support field activities as required. 
  • Undertake other tasks assigned by the program team.  

Supervision and Learning Outcomes 

The intern will receive structured guidance and mentorship designed to translate theoretical  knowledge into practical skills.

o Confidently implement routine program for health and  nutrition intervention  

o Design and deliver basic training modules for women farmers  groups  

o Conduct and document supportive supervision visits  effectively  

o Analyze and interpret monthly live data from the DHIS2 and  community -level monitoring data 

 

Qualifications, Experience and Skills  

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, public health, data science or related fields. Academic experience gathering and/or analyzing data for research projects, and  communicating results, is essential. 
  • Solid organizational skills and reliable attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize workload, assume responsibility for work, and  follow through to completion.  
  • Strong interpersonal skills include the ability to communicate effectively across cultures.

  • Proficiency in English language including ability to comprehend project documents; draft and  edit routine business correspondence; and contribute to drafting and editing reports. Highly computer literate including: 

o knowledge of Microsoft office suite or equivalent. 

o strong Excel skills; and 

o proficiency in statistical analysis using STATA or R, a strong advantage. Experience laying out and formatting communications documents a plus. Ability and willingness to work under pressure with a positive attitude as a part of a team.  Collaborative, flexible and solution oriented. 

  • Willingness to travel within the targeted districts.
