ROLE AND PURPOSE 

Marampa Mines Limited seeks to hire a qualified and experienced Environmental Monitoring &  Compliance Supervisor. The role is functionally embedded into the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)  department of the company. He/she will be fully accountable for general environmental monitoring and  compliance activities on the mine site reporting to the Environmental Superintendent. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Conduct environmental, meteorological, and radiation monitoring for air quality, ground level  ozone, wind speed, noise/sound, and vibration (PM10 and PM2.5, Co, SO2, NO2 etc).  Investigate human health-related incidents such as air, water, soil, industrial noise, dust, sound  pollution and waste management.  

Conduct environmental compliance assessments to mitigate environmental problems. 

Collaborate with other environment team members, engineers and specialists/experts to  address environmental problems.  

Use GPS and other modern devices to capture/collect GIS and other data for statistical analyses  and project reporting.  

Conduct weekly, monthly, and annual environmental inspections, monitoring and audits  (Internal).  

Conduct preliminary reviews of projects for environmental impacts and determine preparedness  actions for identification and notifications on relevant environmental issues.  

Ensure compliance with relevant national environmental and mining regulations (Acts, License,  Permits) per their terms & conditions (EPA-SL, NMA-SL, and NWRMA-SL).  

Align internal HSE procedures, policies, and practices with international standards and  framework (WHO, IFC/World Bank EHS Guidelines, Equatorial Principles etc).  

Assist in developing and implementing site site-wide environmental management systems.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE 

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences (Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Wildlife,  Natural Resources Management) or a related field from a recognised university. 

An advanced degree is preferred.  

5 years’ experience in the mining industry, wildlife management, enforcement or general  environmental compliance monitoring.  

Familiarity and deep knowledge of environmental laws and regulations of Sierra Leone. 

Health and safety-related qualifications (IOSH/NEBOSH).  

Strong working background with ISO 45001:2018 Health and Safety Management System; ISO  14001 Environmental Management System and IFC Performance Standards.  

Previous leadership role (supervisory or managerial level) managing environmental issues. 

Strong experience in HSE compliance monitoring, project management, and reporting. 

Prior experience with data collection and systems is preferred. 

REQUIRED SKILLS 

Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. 

Knowledge of data techniques and procedures. 

Strong computer skills, including MS Office (especially Excel) and database systems.

Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information. 

Strong organizational and time management skills. 

Excellent communication skills. 

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

The individual must be physically and mentally fit for the mining work environment.

Requires flexibility to work in shifts and extended hours including weekends.
