CAF-SL works to strengthen protection, gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and rights, prevention and response to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), child protection, community empowerment, and access to essential support services.
CAF-SL implements programmes in partnership with local and international organizations and works closely with government institutions, community structures, service providers, and other stakeholders to improve the lives of vulnerable populations.

Caregiver – Girl Shelter

🎯 Main Purpose of the Job
The Caregiver will provide daily care, supervision, protection, and emotional support to girls living in the shelter, especially girls who have experienced SGBV or other forms of abuse.
The caregiver is expected to help create a safe, clean, respectful, confidential, and child-friendly environment.
🔑 Main Duties
The caregiver will:
- Help girls with bathing, dressing, hygiene, meals, sleeping, and daily routines.
- Supervise and monitor the girls’ safety and wellbeing.
- Provide a caring and supportive presence without forcing girls to discuss their traumatic experiences.
- Observe and report changes in behaviour, illness, injuries, distress, or other concerns.
- Support education, homework, reading, recreation, life skills, and other activities.
- Help maintain cleanliness of bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen, and common areas.
- Assist with meals, clothing, hygiene materials, and household supplies.
- Keep basic and confidential records and report important incidents.
- Work with social workers, shelter managers, coordinators, and other staff.
- Follow emergency, security, fire, evacuation, and safeguarding procedures.
🛡️ Very Important: Child Protection
This is a major part of the job. The caregiver must:
- Protect girls from abuse, exploitation, neglect, bullying, and violence.
- Never use corporal punishment, threats, humiliation, or intimidation.
- Maintain strict confidentiality.
- Maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
- Immediately report safeguarding or protection concerns.
- Follow CAF-SL’s Child Protection Policy, Code of Conduct, safeguarding and PSEA requirements.
🎓 Minimum Qualifications
You need at least:
- Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE/WASSCE) or equivalent.
Additional training in caregiving, childcare, social work, community development, nursing assistance, or early childhood care is an advantage.
👩💼 Experience Required
The ideal candidate should have:
- At least 2 years of relevant experience in caregiving, child protection, residential care, or community-based work.
- Experience working with children, adolescents, vulnerable people, or survivors of violence.
- Experience in a shelter, children’s home, school, hospital, or similar environment is an advantage.
- Experience with SGBV survivors is a strong advantage.
