KRIO TRANSLATOR

 

SOS Children’s Villages was established in Sierra Leone in 1974. We work with government and partners in communities to help families care for their children or to provide an alternative family for children who have no one to care for them, or who have lost parental care or are exposed to risks of neglect, abandonment, abuse and exploitation. Located in Freetown, Bo and Makeni, SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone has a wide range of programmes, in which the love of a caregiver is essential, to ensure children grow in a loving home and become their strongest selves.

Programmes include Alternative Care settings, Interim Care Centres, Youth care programmes that support more than 530 children and young people leaving in villages and in communities. In addition to quality care, we advocate for children, young people and women’s right, protection, safeguarding and empowerment. SOS Children’s Villages also provide quality education to over 4,000 students through its Herman Gmeiner International Schools, Kindergartens and Technical Vocational/ Employability and Entrepreneurship Training Centre in support of care-exit strategies and reintegration processes. Other projects include the Youth Innovation challenge & Youth-Can! which support young entrepreneurs with their businesses and young people on their quest to employment. The emergency programmes aid vulnerable families cope with the impact of COVID-19 and the economic downturn to prevent family separation.

 

SOS Children’s Villages Sierra Leone is in hiring a consultant to translate it Child and Youth Safeguarding policy in the common local language generally spoken by all Sierra Leonean (Krio). Under the general supervision of the Country Director, the consultant (translator) will work with the Safeguarding team in Sierra Leone for the provision of professional translation and editing services on the Child & Youth Safeguarding Policy from English to Krio language. 

 

Expected output/Deliverables.

The service provider will be requested to deliver the below services:

  • Translation of the Child & Youth Safeguarding Policy (From English to Krio language)
  • Produce 100% accurate translation of policy document and IEC materials for example audio version of the policy in Krio.
  • Use the appropriate terminology considering the styles and nuances of the original text. Quality check and proofreading of translation ensuring no typographical errors in the final text; ensure timely delivery of translated materials. 
  • Assure texts are technically and grammatically correct and consistent in terms of completions and terminology usage,
  • Assure that texts meet high quality standards, are error free and will not need further editing after completion of translation.
  • Deliver the translated documents as per the plan and timeline agreed by the Team

 

Qualifications and Experience

 

The Translation Consultant will be required to submit:

  • A business profile or individual CV that highlights the relevant academic qualifications and experience necessary to perform the job as well as the submitting a complete proposal which includes cost structure or consultancy fee charged for this service (e.g. cost of translation per page, etc. for a total of 32 pages) 
  • Good communication and listening skills.
  • A list of organizations that translation services have been provided to within the last five (5) years,
  • Samples of texts that have been translated with content related to development human rights/women’s rights, Child protection policy, employee handbook, safeguarding policy etc. 
  • A local translator will be considered.

 

WORK CONDITIONS

 

STARTING DATE: 20th May 2024

DURATION OF CONTRACT: Fifteen (15) working days
