Position Overview
This position is responsible for ensuring all-time electrical connectivity within the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) and KGH premises through proper electrical and generator installation and regular maintenance. Included among the installed systems the electrical technician will be working on are: the Electrical Systems, Mechanical systems (HVAC), the Fire Alarm Systems; Electrical Power Generation and Distribution Systems (Generators); Voltage Regulators; Transformers; Panel boards, Automatic Transfer Switches; Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) motors and controllers; and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 
Duties & Responsibilities. 

  • Conduct diagnosis of systems and components malfunctioning, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem; 
  • Participate and prepare a comprehensive lists of electrical materials with their specifications when need be for maintenance or new installations to guide in the purchase of the same; 
  • Engage in regular maintenance or new electrical installation works to facilitate proper repairing of failures or extension of electrical power to new points of use; 
  • Prepare preliminary route sketches for minor installations on a regular basis to act as a guide on how the power supply connections will be fixed; 
  • Engage in regular troubleshooting issues within the power network to diagnose any new developing failures within the power system and hence plan for repairs on time; 
  • Participate in offering regular on job training to new electrical artisans to enable them get well acquainted with the new work environment and the different roles; 
  • Respond to regular electrical emergencies within the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) and KGH as directed by the facilities manager so as to effect the necessary remedies of the same where possible or escalate in case of any needed assistance; 
  • Respond to regular electrical concerns raised by various stakeholders within the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) and KGH such as short circuits, dysfunctional sockets and others to offer remedy to enable continuity of operations; 
  • Participate in the installation of electric power to new extensions within the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) and KGH when need be so as to ensure proper connectivity for the required extension purpose; 
  • Engage in regular inspection of different areas within the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) and KGH to identify any lighting needs, generator maintenance needs, to inform the necessary course of action; 
  • Perform regular inspections at all the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) and KGH electrical distribution boards power stabilizer to ensure their adequate functionality; and, 
  • Manage all regular servicing schedules for all the Center electricity plants including but not limited to; Generators, lights, etc.. 
  • Ensuring the functionality of all electrical appliances and closely work with the biomedical engineer to ensure a proper functionality of all medical equipment; 
  • Supervise major electrical and generator-related installations projects and maintenance.

  • Other duties as delegated to you by your line manager that fall within the scope of work and role level.

Education and Work Experience Requirements: 
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of work experience in electrical installation and maintenance; 
  • Minimum of Diploma in Engineering, Electronics;  or Certificate/ Craft certificate in Electrical Installation/Wiring from a recognized institution;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the health and safety practices applicable; 
  • Ability to use measuring instruments and devices efficiently to measure electrical parameters of systems and installations.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and wiring diagrams; 
  • Proficient with direct installation of wiring; 
  • Having generator maintenance skills and qualifications is added value; 
  • Ability to work carefully, methodically and safely; 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills including ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse staff, partners, and clients; 
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative; must be a quick learner, able to multi-task and easily adapt to changing circumstances; 
  • Ability to effectively work on a team in a complex, fast-paced environment;
