Akuna Cocoa, a leading agricultural commodities trading firm, seeks a dedicated accountant to join our team. This role is based in Kenema, Sierra Leone, within a dynamic team of five individuals. For candidates relocating to Kenema, Akuna Cocoa offers assistance with settling into the town. Additionally, arrangements for remote work a few days per month can be accommodated.

About Akuna Cocoa: 

Established in May 2022, Akuna Cocoa aims to enhance Sierra Leone’s exports of cocoa and cashew commodities. Leveraging the country’s well-established production, we are focused on assembling proficient teams to uphold the quality of Sierra Leonean products. With two shareholders—an esteemed British fund and a Swiss trading company—our operations thrive in an international context. Our team collaborates with peers across five African countries and an one country in Asia, enriching our collective experience. As our enterprise expands, we seek a proactive and knowledgeable accountant to join our ranks.

Role Overview: 

As a Finance Officer, your responsibilities will span various domains:

Financial Management Reporting: 

• Provide essential financial support to ensure effective fund management that sustains and enhances our cocoa business. This entails meticulous oversight of financial inflows and outflows related to cocoa operations.

Purchase and Sales Ledger: 

• Oversee financial transactions at Akuna Cocoa, managing payments and accurately recording them in our systems.

Compliance with Regulations: 

• Thorough understanding and adherence to Sierra Leonean regulations are crucial. The candidate must adeptly navigate interactions with entities like the National Revenue Authority (NRA), labor laws, and social security requirements. Regular production of mandated documents for different authorities is part of this role.

Candidate Requirements: 

Akuna Cocoa prioritizes candidate quality and believes in nurturing individuals into exceptional finance officers. However, we do require candidates to possess:

• A degree in accounting or a related field.
• Prior experience in a business setting.

The recruitment process entails two to three interviews, allowing us to assess the candidate’s fit for the role. Salary discussions will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experiences.
