JOB TITLE: Project Manager 

LOCATION: Freetown   

REPORTS TO: Senior Projects Manager  

DURATION: 12 Months (with the possibility of an extension)

Who we’re looking for 

We’re looking for very a strong team player with excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to help deliver some of our current and future donor-funded development projects. As part of their responsibilities and duties, the Project Manager will oversee the development and execution of all project deliverables, lead project design, planning and budgeting, develop workplans, and participate in procurement and other operational and administrative processes. They will help link our work with partners in the development sector and across Sierra Leone’s media ecosystem. The Project Manager’s role also involves supporting management in the day-to-day running of the country office as necessary. The nature of the work we do requires a lot of flexibility, passion, and willingness to learn new skills.  

BBC Media Action works to ensure that everyone we work with remains safe during their time with us, and we operate a zero-tolerance policy concerning all forms of abuse and exploitation of vulnerable people. As this role may involve working with groups of vulnerable children, youth, and adults, mandatory training will be provided on BBC Media Action’s safeguarding policy and staff code of conduct.

Specific job requirements and competencies:

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Experience managing a multi-disciplinary team to deliver development projects, including project design, developing workplans, deploying resources and adhering to log-frame commitments;  
  • Strong skills in managing budgets and good knowledge of budget and project management tools and software;
  • Experience writing activity and project reports, and the strong written communication skills to do so effectively;
  • Ability to build strong working relations quickly and gain the trust of local partners and counterparts; 
  • Strong analytical skills, good judgement and decision-making abilities, as well as innovative project delivery and problem-solving skills
