General Task | The midwife’s mission is to strengthen the capacities of healthcare staff involved in the reception and provision of Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services for and adolescents and young people (AY) in line with Solthis’ quality improvement approach, through the implementation of training and tutoring/mentoring activities, in collaboration with the medical referent, and to participate in monitoring and capitalizing on the project. |
About Us:
Solthis (Therapeutic Solidarity and Initiatives in Health) is an international health NGO that contributes to the strengthening of health systems to improve access to quality care in countries with limited resources and/or with vulnerable populations. Solthis is registered and has been operating in Sierra Leone since 2011 where our teams have been providing comprehensive technical support at both health facility, national, and community levels to improve the quality of HIV and TB care, and SRHR services.

To complete our operational team based in Sierra Leone, we are looking for

Contract duration: Fixed-term contract (one-year renewable)

BACKGROUND
In West Africa, and specifically in Sierra Leone, adolescents’ and young people’s (AY) access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services and interventions adapted to their needs remains very limited, and a range of barriers hinder the exercise of their SRHR: the weight of socio cultural determinants, gender inequalities and social norms often unfavourable to early sexuality or sexuality outside marriage, as well as AYs’ low decision-making power, weak health services, lack of access to information and financial barriers. Solthis has received funds from the French Development Agency (AFD) to implement SHAPE (Sexual and reproductive Health Access and Promotion of Empowerment) project in partnership with Community Action for the Welfare of Children (CAWeC SL), Solthis will be responsible for the overall coordination of activities and will operate capacity-building for health professionals and improve the quality of care offered in public health centers while the local partner will roll out all community interventions.
SPECIFIC TASKS
Under the supervision of the Project Coordinator, the midwives are responsible to the midwives will oversee providing technical advice to project beneficiaries and partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Support to partner health facilities
- He/she supports the staff of partner health facilities in organizing and offering quality health services adapted to the needs of adolescents and young people, in line with the latest scientific evidence on SRH, in collaboration with the project coordinator and the technical referent at head office.
- He/she contributes to organizing and leading the participatory diagnosis of practices on the project’s themes in the project’s partner healthcare structures, in collaboration with the project coordinator;
Training and tutoring
- He/she participates in identifying training needs and in the theoretical and practical training of healthcare staff on the project’s themes, in collaboration with the project coordinator and in collaboration Solthis SRHR Advisor ;
- He/she ensures post-training follow-up of trained healthcare staff in the form of tutoring.
- He/she works in collaboration with institutional partners (school inspectorate, middle and high schools) on iron/folic acid supplementation for young girls
- He/she participates in surveys/research carried out as part of the
Data monitoring and capitalization
- He/she supports (especially at the start of data collection) the project’s monitoring and evaluation team in collecting and reporting service data (consultation data, service related indicators, etc.).
- He/she contributes to the capitalization of project results in collaboration with the project’s medical team and the technical referent at headquarters (sharing of best practices, recommendations for the drafting of practice sheets, documentation of examples, etc.).

Representation and management of various partnerships
- Upon request, participates in the various SRHR thematics national Technical Working Groups and other national steering committees
Advocacy /Capitalisation/Communication on projects
- Facilitates communication between operational and MEAL Coordinator
- Participates in national consultation frameworks on the various SRHR thematics
- Defines operational communication actions for projects, i.e. visibility, dissemination of results, closure, etc.
- Documents and disseminates lessons learned from projects
- Ensures that all project-related documents are archived on SharePoint.
- Participates in international conferences related to project themes (pending availability of funds)

PROFILE REQUIRED
Education :
- Advanced university degree in midwifery; health management; management; health sciences or related discipline.
- A Bachelor’s degree in midwifery or in a related discipline will also be considered.
- Registered Nurse/Midwife (essential/ mandatory)
Experience :
- At least 3 years of relevant organizational and management experience in SRH, midwifery and/or maternal and newborn health programs.
- Post registration experience
- Gynaecology experience
- Family planning/Sexual and reproductive Health
