Job Description
Concern Worldwide is a nongovernmental, international, humanitarian organisation dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working towards the ultimate elimination of extreme poverty in the world’s poorest countries. Concern Worldwide’s integrated programming approach aims to tackle all dimensions of poverty, focusing on the overlapping areas of health, education and livelihoods while maintaining our response to emergencies. Concern currently operates in the Districts of Western Area Urban (Freetown), Western Area Rural, Tonkolili and Port Loko – as well as remotely in Kambia, Koinadugu, Falaba, Bombali and Karene.

Job Purpose: | The Climate Change and Environment officer will lead all field activities relating to: Strengthened community structures, coastal governance platforms and Community Adaptation Plans (CAPs) by training community structures on climate change, Develop, agree and consolidate CAPs with the targeted communities and conducting annual review meeting on CAPs to check progress/challenges, community outreach on EWS mechanisms (dissemination) through radio and meetings and radio messaging development and airing on EWS mechanisms
Ensuring Local/District Development Plans incorporate Community Adaptation Plans and strengthened national and sub-national governments undertake climate The Climate Change and Environment officer will lead all field activities relating to: Strengthened community structures, coastal governance platforms and Community Adaptation Plans (CAPs) by training community structures on climate change, Develop, agree and consolidate CAPs with the targeted communities and conducting annual review meeting on CAPs to check progress/challenges, community outreach on EWS mechanisms (dissemination) through radio and meetings and radio messaging development and airing on EWS mechanisms Ensuring Local/District Development Plans incorporate Community Adaptation Plans and strengthened national and sub-national governments undertake climate adaptation projects through ensuring those Strengthen district coordination mechanisms and mentoring and joint supportive supervision at community level.
Enhance climate resilience of schools and climate change education in schools by delivering agreed climate-resilient interventions for schools, training and equipping School Management Committees on using and maintaining climate-resilient equipment and monitoring and supporting school use of climate resilient equipment. Strengthened capacity of communities to protect, restore and sustainably use mangrove ecosystems for climate resilience by facilitating community-led mangrove assessments, conduct community level training on mangrove management and implement awareness raising on mangrove use at community and chiefdom levels. Ecosystems-based adaptation implemented in communities by developing conservation plans for each community, facilitating the development of by-laws, establishing and developing ecoguard protection, developing coastal protection measures for each community, supporting the procurement of community tools for coastline protection, implementing artificial coastline protection and implementing alternative nature-based solutions for coastline protection where appropriate S/he will support in project assessments. S/he will ensure that agreed targets are on track, collect monitoring and case stories, and provide quality reports. |
