Title of the position  Driver – Free TB Project in Bo District
Main workplace  Bo District (With frequent travels within the health district and some visits to  Freetown)
Contract Duration

General mission Under the Free TB Project Coordinator’s hierarchical supervision in Bo, the driver is  responsible for providing timely, efficient, and safe transportation to the project team.  H/She will contribute to the achievement of objectives within the deadlines defined  contractually with the donors. 

 

Driving and maintenance: 

  • Organizes the transport of the project team and supplies  
  • Maintains vehicle log, fuel purchase, and consumption documentation 
  • Prepares daily, weekly, and monthly vehicle usage reports, including trip use, mileage, and fuel consumption; and maintenance.  
  • Maintains valid driver’s license.  
  • In consultation with the Admin Officer, comply with vehicle allocation for staff 
  • Keeps the vehicle documentation up to date. 
  • Updates the whiteboard once the movement plan is approved 

Control of vehicles: 

  • Ensures that all vehicle journeys are authorized in advance by the Line manager
  • Ensures that all vehicle journeys are recorded in the logbook at the start and completion of the journey Ensures that keys and vehicle documents are kept in a secure place when the vehicle is not in use Ensures that all passengers wear seat belts before driving the vehicle
  • Ensures that the Line Manager is immediately informed of any accidents/incidents and that the accident is reported to the appropriate authorities as soon as possible 
  • Ensure that the vehicle license and insurance are up to date
  • Reports on all near misses.

Vehicle checks: 

  • Conduct daily vehicle checks every morning before moving the vehicle, fill the checklist, and file accordingly 
  • Checks on taking over a vehicle and ensures that the items listed on the vehicle checklist and in the vehicle tools and materials inventory are present and in functioning order 
  • Checks the level of vehicle oil, water, tires pressure, battery, and brakes to ensure all are up to the standards required before moving the vehicle 
  • Checks for vehicle defects and damages and ensures that he/she reports them to his/her line manager promptly 
  • Reports and supervises all maintenance and repair needs of assigned vehicles at the garage. 

Cleanliness and visibility: 

  • Ensures that the vehicle is always kept clean on the outside and inside 
  • Ensure SOLTHIS and donor visibility protocols are always adhered to.  

Others: 

  • Follows and abides by traffic rules, regulations, driver safety manual, and any other instructions given by the supervisor 
  • Maintains all vehicle safety equipment, as per vehicle safety kit, in liaison with the admin – including first aid kit, reflective vest, fire extinguisher, etc. 
  • Works after duty hours as and when required and within short notice from the line manager. Perform any other duty as requested by authorized persons.  

REQUIRED SKILLS

Education and  experience Education:  

Completion of Junior Secondary school education with a BECE certificate. Formal  driver training with a valid driver’s license to operate assigned vehicles, following  Sierra Leone Road Authority rules and regulations. 

Experience 

Three (3) or more years of work experience as a driver preferably in an international  Non-Governmental Organization, UN agency, or any humanitarian organization with  a demonstrated safe driving record 

Experience in driving both manual and automatic vehicles

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: 

Good knowledge of driving rules and regulations, chauffeur protocol and courtesies,  local roads/waterways and conditions, and security issues 

Good understanding of transport services and ability to coordinate routes 

Good knowledge of safety standards and safety equipment 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety and security manuals,  operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals 

Ability to assess vehicles for mechanical fitness and skills in minor vehicle repairs 

LANGUAGES REQUIRED: 

Basic knowledge of English  

Good report writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.

 

Remuneration  

According to the Solthis salary scale, depending on previous experience in a similar position
