The Function 

The Executive Director (ED) plays a critical role in the success of —— by driving revenue growth, maximizing profits, and ensuring core organizational objectives are met through driving high standards of quality assurance across all —— operations and commercial channels. The Executive Director is the most senior executive position in ——- responsible for the overall strategy, planning, and execution of commercial activities. The role requires a strategic and innovative mindset, as well as the ability to lead and manage teams towards achieving revenue growth and profitability goals.

The post-holder will be accountable on a half yearly basis for the performance of the executive leadership team, the company, all company costs, and profit margins. 

This post holder will lead the Executive leadership team, which is collectively responsible for strategy development and driving the company towards growth, sustainability, and high levels of consumer satisfaction, and collectively achieve the company’s mission and goals. 

The Role

The Executive Director is responsible for Leading and executing a national commercial strategy to advance the commercial success of the company, generate and disseminate SRHR knowledge and practice, and build strategic partnerships with diverse stakeholders. The ED is also responsible for ensuring that —— complies with global standards, including but not limited to product quality, data quality, development and implementation of cost-effective marketing and public relations programs across all —– channels of delivery. The ED provides support to the Executive leadership team to manager commercial relationship, delivering sustained growth and excellence in all products offered.

Key Responsibilities 

Operations

  1. Develop and implement commercial strategies to achieve revenue growth targets and enhance profitability.
  2. Lead and manage the Senior Leadership team to develop and execute value for money operational processes.
  3. Lead and manage the Senior Leadership team to develop and execute successful sales and marketing campaigns.
  4. Develop strong relationships with key customers and partners to drive business growth and foster increased brand loyalty.
  5. Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends and opportunities, as well as track competitor activity to develop effective strategies to stay ahead of the competition.
  6. Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations pertaining to commercial activities, including customer data privacy regulations.
  7. Develop and manage budgets and financial performance metrics to ensure that commercial activities are aligned with the overall business strategy.
  8. Develop and manage commercial agreements with customers and vendors, including pricing, terms, and conditions.
  9. Identify and assess new business opportunities to diversify the company’s revenue streams and improve its market position.
  10. Develop annual fund-raising strategy and actively seek new funding opportunities, initiate and lead new proposal design, including concept notes.

Leadership

  1. Lead the development and implementation of our vision, mission, and strategies for commercial success and social impact in SRH.
  2. Build and manage a high-performing team that aligns with our values and behaviors, and provide mentorship, coaching, and feedback to enhance their skills and performance.
  3. Establish and maintain effective communication and collaboration with all departments, ensuring that their structures, roles, and responsibilities are fit for purpose and aligned with the company’s goals.
  4. Develop and oversee the quality and innovation of our commercial activities, including design, funding, monitoring, and evaluation, and ensure adherence to technical guidelines, standards, and protocols.
  5. Cultivate and strengthen relationships with external stakeholders, such as donors, governments, ministries of health, and other partners, and represent the Organization in relevant SRH national, regional, and global fora.
  6. Provide compelling documentation and dissemination of our work, impact, and learning, to support global communications, advocacy, external relations, fundraising, and marketing.
  7. Ensure optimal and effective global resourcing in the areas of technical assistance, project management, and proposal development, and leverage existing and new opportunities for growth and sustainability.
  8. Perform any other duties that are incidental to the achievement of the company’s mission, strategies and objectives that may be assigned by the board.

Experience 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in leadership commercial roles, with a track record of developing and executing successful commercial strategies.
  • Experience leading and managing sales and marketing teams.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant laws and regulations pertaining to commercial activities.
  • Experience developing and managing commercial agreements with customers and vendors.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. In-depth understanding of market research methods and analysis
  • Solid knowledge of performance reporting and financial/budgeting processes
  • Commercial awareness partnered with a strategic mindset.
  • Demonstrated ability in facilitating staff capacity development at all levels. 
  • Proven leadership and management skills that motivate high performing teams and encourage innovation and creativity.
  • Preferred: Experience working with a Board of Directors, Board of Advisors, or Steering Committee, or serving on such a body.

Qualifications and Training (essential/desirable)

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in business administration, marketing, or a related field.
