Job Description
ADVERTISEMENT
National Emergency Medical Service is an emergency health project designed and implemented by the Ministry of Health and Sanitation of Sierra Leone with the aim of strengthening ambulance referrals within the country. Our core mandate is to transport patients from PHUs to referring hospitals promptly and professionally.
The National Emergency Medical Service is looking for young energetic, dynamic national individuals to fill the following vacant positions.
Position: Ambulance Driver
Location: Nationwide – All districts
Reporting to: District Operations Coordinator
Major Responsibilities
- The Ambulance Driver will be responsible for the effective, safe and low-cost activities of the ambulance vehicle
- He /she will required a valid driver’s license and must be properly trained to safely use and keep all the types of ambulance vehicles of the NEMS operative
- Place patients on a stretcher and load stretcher into the ambulance usually with assistance from other attendants
- The driver will be in charge of the safety and security of the ambulance team and the patient during ambulance missions, safe driving practices, crash and incident reports, vehicle daily checks (fuel, oil, lights, mechanical equipment, proper functioning, etc.), ambulance mechanical failures and electrical systems malfunctions documentation.
- He /she will also have the responsibility to clean the ambulance and equipment, sterilize the ambulance’s interior, if it will be used to carry a patient suffering from infectious disease
- Report facts concerning incidents or emergencies to District Operations Coordinator and or Human Resources Department.
Educational Requirement
NPSE. BECE, WASSCE
Required Skills
- Excellent defensive driving skills
- Strong communication (spoken & written) skills
- Interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and reassure frightened patients
- Great judgement and decision making skills
- Good physical agility
Experience
- Must possess a minimum of one (1) year of experience in the field of driving
