Field Enumerators
Job Type: Temporary Contract

Helen Keller has been operating in Sierra Leone for nearly 20 years in support of the reproductive health, nutrition, and Neglected Tropical Disease (NTDs) components of the National Health Development Plan of the Ministry of Health, as well as food security component of the Ministry of Agriculture. The
organization is committed to generating evidence, carrying out robust research and a high input into research publications.
Scope of Work
Collecting endline data for the Multiple Micronutrient Supplement (MMS) finished project will fall under the purview of the enumerator. The project, which targeted 600 pregnant women who received the Multiple Micronutrient Supplement (MMS), was carried out in three districts: Kenema, Western Area Urban, and Bombali. From among the 600 pregnant women who participate in the project in the aforementioned districts, a sample of 500 women will be selected. This activity will be required for the project endline evaluation donor reporting and future proposal writing.
The Enumerator’s contract is not full-time; rather, it is based on need-for-work. The MEAL team and Helen Keller International Sierra Leone Nutrition team will oversee the enumerators work. In addition to giving crucial input on the program’s field research operations, the enumerator is responsible to administer the
questionnaire to the selected women in the project’s operational communities in the Sierra Leonean districts of Kenema, Western Area Urban, and Bombali.
The enumerator’s work will be based in the district of allocation where the exercise will take place. This role might require for regular field work within the geographic area where an enumerator will be assigned to, as well as frequent travel to and from these communities.
Key Responsibilities
The enumerator will be responsible for the following:
- Explain the objectives of surveys and their procedures to people who are to be interviewed
- Collecting data as per the programme requirements from his/her assigned district/community.
- Seek out respondent selected for from the assigned locations and collect data based on
questionnaire developed, digitized, and deployed in Android devices by HKI MEAL department.
• Gather and accurately record responses from respondents using ODK ONA digital application. Deployed into their Android devices.
- Ensure that questionnaires have been thoroughly checked and completed.
- Submit completed questionnaires using Android devices and other equipment used in fieldwork to HKI ONA platform and will, if required to do so, compile his/her findings in a format required by the programme.
- As part of each assignment, participate in briefings or training, carry out data collection, data entry and/or reporting using if Android devices breakdown during the process.
- Recognize and give account of problems in obtaining data and provide useful feedback from field during data collection activities.
- Submit completed tasks to supervisor and discuss development daily.

REPORTING LINES AND AMENDMENT OF ToR
Enumerators will work in the field under the guidance and supervision of the HKI MEAL/Nutrition department staffs and will report to the district Program assigned to supervised him or her as designated as per TOR.
ESSENTIAL TRAITS

- Communication: Confidently expresses self, able to clearly ask questions and help the respondent understand what is needed from her/him.
- Relationship Builder: Able to build trust with people at the community assign level and maintain confidentiality.
- Cultural Awareness: Must be aware of and sensitive to the cultural expectations of communities in the selected operational districts/communities.
- Accuracy: Must be able to interpret and record responses appropriately using Android devices without distorting the respondent’s meaning or confusing the reader.
- Endurance: Must be able to work for full day working hours in the field across the number of days hired for.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Enumerator should have.
- Completed at least a diploma certificate, degree, or any equivalent will be an added advantage.
- Experience in data collection, administering questionnaires and conducting interviews, using digital application deployed in Android devices. Such as ODK, KOBO, mWater, Survey CTO, CommCare etc.
- Experience or knowledge of relevant in health, Nutrition, social work, and other relevant community awareness activities.
- Willingness to learn and explore new experiences
- Ability to pay full attention to what others are saying, understand the points being made, and ask appropriate questions.
- Fluency in speaking and understanding English, the local language of beneficiaries in the project communities/districts.
