Specific Objectives:
Objective 1: To help define and implement the mission’s communications strategy.
The Communications Officer is responsible for:
- Contribute to the development of the mission’s communication strategy in line with the country strategy with the Deputy Country Director.
- Manage and plan the internal and external communication activities to be deployed in the country in conjunction with the relevant players (Field Coordinators, HoDs, media, partners, civil society, local authorities, etc.).
- Manage the communication/visibility imperatives vis-à-vis donors (compliance with donor requirements and timetable monitoring).
- Ensure contextual and media monitoring.
Objective 2: Strengthen internal communication and train AAH staff in communication issues
The Communications Officer is responsible for:
- Provide support to Programme Managers and Technical Department Managers in setting up communication activities for their activities.
- Provide technical support to HR teams in setting up internal communication activities (information panels, teambuilding events, AAH ‘identity’ training, etc.).
- Brief and support new arrivals on communication issues.
Objective 3: Ensure the circulation of AAH information with the various local partners
The Communications Officer is responsible for:
- Monitor AAH’s communication with the authorities, NGOs and partners in collaboration with the Deputy Country Director/Country Director;
- Represent AAH at events at the request of the Deputy Country Director/Country Director.
- Participate in developing contacts with the media in order to relay our messages effectively and efficiently, in support of the Deputy Country Director/Country Director.
Objective 4: Produce the mission’s communication tools and ensure their distribution:
- Collect high-quality content (photos, videos, stories) adhering to AAH’s branding guidelines.
- Design and produce institutional communication materials (newsletters, brochures, etc.).
- Manage AAH Sierra Leone’s social media platforms by publishing regular updates.
- Oversee press relations, including drafting press releases and organizing media events.

- Minimum of 3 years’ higher education in marketing/communications/media/journalism or another relevant field.

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE |
ESSENTIAL |
- At least 1 year of professional experience in the field of communication, preferably in an NGO.
- Good knowledge of Office (Word, Excel, Power point, etc.) and CANVA software.
- Good knowledge of the Sierra Leone and international media landscape and its codes.
- Excellent command of English, both spoken and written.

WORK CONDITIONS
STARTING DATE: March 2024
DURATION OF CONTRACT: Twelve(12) Months (Renewable)
LOCATION: Freetown with, possible travels to other field areas
