VACANCY ADVERTISEMENT ( MULTIPLE VACANCIES)

This advert is for both Internal and External candidates.

Applications are invited from suitably qualified Sierra Leoneans to fill the following positions at the Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone:

  1. Senior Human Rights Officers
  2. Human Rights Officers
  3. Assistant Human Rights Officers

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in the Social Sciences. Also, an advanced degree in the Social Sciences and Humanities is preferable (For Senior Human Rights Officer)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in the Social Sciences and Humanities (Human Rights and Assistant Human Rights Officer)
  • Other Professional Studies will be an added advantage

 

WORKNG EXPERIENCE:

At least 5 years of working experience in a Human Right Institution

(Senior Human Rights Officer)

  • At least three (3) years’ experience (Human Rights Officer).
  • At least two (2) years experience (Assistant Human Rights Officer)
  • Must have a thorough understanding of Human Rights Issues

 

3. DUTIES FOR SENIOR HUMAN RIGHTS OFFICER:

    • Must have good communication and report-writing skills
    • Collaborate and work with Human Rights Officers in the Directorate assiY1ed and other partners.
    • Research, investigate, collect, and analyze information about human rights Supervise Human Rights and Assistant Human Rights Officers as well as other staff within the assigned directorate
    • Support the Commission-Directorates in drafting and implementing legislation relating to human rights.
    • Undertake advocacy programs/projects on human rights-related issues
    • Make reports relating to human rights violations and recommendations to remedy violations and produce articles for publication.
    • Develop and deliver human rights training programs to staff of HRCSL and MDAs,/NGOs on human rights.
    • Assist in promoting efforts for community mobilization and sensitization on human rights
    • Prepare quarterly human rights reports on assigned responsibilities
    • Collaborate with all staff and directorates’ of HRCSL, MDAs, CSOS, INGOs/NGOs, UN Agencies, and other partners to collect data on human rights related issues and thematic.
    • Prepare and develop periodic reports/newsletters/brochures and magazines on human rights situations nationwide
    • Perform any other duty as may be determined by the Commission.

 

4. DUTIES FOR HUMAN RIGHTS OFFICER:

The Human Rights Officer shall work under the supervision of the Director, Deputy Director, Senior Human Rights Officer, or any other assigned Officer.

The incumbent will be responsible for monitoring and reporting on human rights

violations. receiving and investigating allegations of human rights violations, and promoting the rights of persons with disability and other vulnerable groups. In addition, the successful candidate will carry out the under-mentioned responsibilities.

Participate in investigation and resolutions of complaints on human rights violations

Gather and collate information and catalog systemic violations of Human rights

Monitor correctional facilities and other places of detention

Participate in the drafting of periodic reports and the State of Human Rights Report for the consideration of the Commission.

Contribute towards the creation of human rights awareness in the country Conduct education and training on human rights for the general public

Undertake monitoring activities and investigations into human rights violations in Sierra Leone, report, and make recommendations based on analysis of facts and legal issues.

Research and collect information on human rights issues/ violation

Assist in the analysis of information, to determine patterns of human rights violation/ abuse:

Provide support to establish and maintain a national database on human rights violations/abuses

Perform any other duty as may be determined by the Commission.
