Core tasks 

In your role you are responsible for the operational security risk management of a specific location or region and advise the country director on implementing the security risk management system. You work on all job orders within your remit and are the main contact for advising managers and other staff members on all issues in the thematic area. You are also responsible for providing specialist support to colleagues in bands 2 and 3, and ensure the quality of the commission’s outcomes.  

 

You work in consultation with security management at GIZ Head Office and the relevant national and international actors and implement GIZ safety standards in consultation with the local or regional Risk Management Office (RMO) team leaders.  

 

You are responsible for drawing up and communicating security risk assessments to all stakeholders concerned and clearly communicate the relevant requirements. You also support crisis management in the event of security incidents.  

 

In consultation with your line manager and the relevant actors, you examine the existing structures, develop new forms and assist in developing IT-based SRM solutions.  

 

In consultation with your team colleagues and line manager, you also coordinate all issues within your area of work and ensure that they are dealt with promptly and competently. You resolve problems that arise in your area of responsibility on the basis of existing rules and draw attention to more complex challenges in your team. 

 

You are involved in ongoing process development within your remit, are responsible for knowledge management and prepare and share documentation. If required, you also support other experts in familiarizing themselves with and performing their tasks. 

You perform the tasks assigned to you by your line manager, where required. 

 

Main activities:

  • Cooperate closely in a team under the guidance of the international SRMA and with the security focal points of the projects.  
  • Data and document management of all security relevant information and incident reporting 
  • Maintenance and operation of the GIZ crisis communication including the Emergency Mass Notification System  
  • Responsible for security briefings of GIZ staff and incoming travelers 
  • Conducts building security assessments of offices across Sierra Leone, hotels, and private premises of international colleagues. 
  • Crises management assistance including regular security assessments and analysis of the security context and dynamics, facilitation and documentation of regular security related meetings and sensitization of GIZ staff for crisis preparedness. 
  • Organize various security trainings for the staff. 
  • Maintenance and expansion of risk management relevant networks. 

 

Qualifications and specialist knowledge (optional, if required)

  • University degree in political and/ or social science with a specialization in security related matters 
  • At least 3 years of documented security risk management related experience in Freetown ideally in an international development or humanitarian setting with additional trainings and experience in emergency management, security, and safety
  • Able to work autonomously with little guidance and ability to make sound, rational decisions in critical situations based on analysis, knowledge, and experience.  
  • Practical/applied crisis management experience with the ability to work under pressure and willingness to work beyond office hours. 
  • Proactive and creative team player in a multicultural environment also under difficult circumstances.
  • Excellent understanding of Sierra Leone’s culture, social and political environment 
  • Access to security risk management relevant national networks 
  • Excellent communication skills written and orally in English and proven IT skills in MS Office applications.
