MRDT / Malaria Diagnostics Refresher Training for Laboratory Technicians
PMI REACH Malaria supports the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) to strengthen malaria diagnosis, improve case management, and enhance the capacity of laboratory personnel across Sierra Leone. Malaria remains a major public health burden, and accurate, timely diagnosis is essential for effective treatment and surveillance.
Despite prior training, routine assessments and external quality assurance (EQA) results indicate gaps in:
- Malaria microscopy skills
- Correct use of Rapid Diagnostic Tests (mRDTs)
- Adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Biosafety and quality assurance (QA/QC) practices
- Data management and reporting
To address these gaps, PMI REACH Malaria, in collaboration with NMCP, will conduct a malaria diagnostic refresher training course for laboratory technicians, focusing on both microscopy and mRDT use. This training will build laboratory competency, improve diagnostic accuracy, and align practices with national guidelines.
PURPOSE OF THE ACTIVITY/ WHY:
